Job Description:
The Syracuse Biomaterials Institute and the Department of Biomedical and Chemical Engineering (BMCE) in the College of Engineering and Computer Science at Syracuse University invite applications for a full-time Lab Technician position. The lab technician will assist on an integrated, interdisciplinary project to use synthetic, phototunable hydrogels to study the role of matrix stiffness and composition on intestinal organoid morphogenesis. Strong commitment to collaborative, cross-disciplinary research is especially desirable, as the researcher will work in, as well as help set-up and manage, the lab of Dr. Michael Blatchley. Demonstration of past accomplishment toward fostering diversity and building an inclusive climate in research is of great importance. The faculty advisor will help the technician advance their professional goals. The Blatchley lab is a newly remodeled lab space that is a part of the BioInspired Institute, which is a highly collaborative research environment that has world class facilities and shared equipment.

Qualifications:
  • Applicants should have a bachelors degree in biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, biology, biochemistry, chemistry or a closely related discipline
  • Demonstrate potential for excellence in research.


Job Specific Qualifications:
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
  • Should be willing to drive a new project in a multidisciplinary research environment.
  • Should demonstrate one or more of the following technical skills: cell/organoid culture, microscopy, microscopy image analysis, and/or polymer synthesis and characterization.

  • Fixation.
  • Immunostaining.
  • Imaging, and image analysis of organoids.
  • Organoid characterization.
