Job Summary
Telling It is a trauma-informed resiliency-building community-based program that supports the healing and learning needs of under-served school-age youth using best practices from social work and education filtered through the expressive arts so they can lead safe, healthy and fulfilling lives. Telling It is designed to meet the needs of the youth so they can reach their full potential as engaged community members. The after-school program sessions are youth driven and offer a safe, censorship and judgement-free environment in which youth can process their hurts and practice healthy coping skills. Responsibilities*
Overview of Position

The qualified candidate will participate in weekly Telling It after-school program sessions for scool-age youth, train in age-appropriate skills for site facilitation, meet with the Program Director separately to train in the program rationales utilizing the Telling It Toolkit, and under direct supervision, develop and lead individual sessions with the youth.

Trainee will learn to
  • Plan and execute two-hour weekly sessions for youth in collaboration with site social worker.
  • Facilitate the team pre- and de-brief for the weekly sessions.
  • Apply the expressive arts through a trauma-informed lens.
  • Develop session plans that meet the social emotional needs of youth that may have experienced Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs).
  • Supervise the support team who serve as mentors to the youth.
  • Liaise with the community partner.
  • Report to Telling It Program Director on a regular basis.
  • Check in with the team's Social Worker on a regular basis.
  • May obtain and organize the necessary supplies to conduct weekly session(s).
  • Work with the Program Director to recruit and hire community guest artists to participate in the weekly session(s).
  • Assist Program Director and others in the production of an anthology of the youth's writings and artwork at the conclusion of the program.

Required Qualifications*
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • Reliability is required. In the event Site Facilitator Trainee is not able to lead a session, arrangements will be made 24 hours in advance with the Program Director.
  • Arrive fully prepared to facilitate the sessions.
  • Check in with Program Director and team Social Worker on a regular basis.

Desired Qualifications*
  • A Bachelor or Master degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of utilizing the expressive arts and a trauma-informed approach to working with youth.
  • History of reliability and accountability.
  • Experience as a team leader.
  • Demonstrate maturity and ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Model positive behavior, energy, flexibility and humor.
  • Able to work effectively across race, ethnicity, socioeconomic background, sexual orientation, gender identity and differently-abled.
  • Excellent listening and communication skills with the ability to provide written and oral reports.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to problem-solve issues.
  • Able to exercise compassion, professionalism, and discretion with material of a highly sensitive or confidential nature.
  • Working knowledge of Telling It is preferred.
  • Have demonstrable passion for the program mission and for an environment that promotes best practices, social justice, and creativity.
