Position Details:
The Public Information Office (PIO) would like to build a pool of substitute Receptionist/Switchboard Operators to serve as receptionist at the information desk when needed. The assignment will be on an on-call basis, with substitutes potentially being contacted on short notice about a shift.

IMPORTANT: MiraCosta College requires that all employees be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to promote a safe and healthful workplace for employees and to promote the health and safety of our campus community. Salary Range: 9
Compensation: $21.92 per hour (range 9, step 1).Employees must make arrangements for the direct deposit of paychecks into the financial institution of their choice, via electronic fund transfer.

Benefits:
Short-term, temporary employees may be eligible for Healthy Families Sick Leave, and enrollment in a retirement system.

*Individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks or more after they have received the second dose in a 2-dose series (e.g. Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna), or two weeks or more after they have received a single-dose vaccine (e.g., Johnson and Johnson [J&J/Janssen).

Retired STRS members are not eligible for this position.

Basic Function:
Under the direction of the Director of Public & Governmental Relations, Marketing and Communications, serve as receptionist at the information desk in the lobby of the Administration Building, answer questions and provide information to the public both in person and in response to telephone calls.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Answer telephones, route calls; take messages. (E)

2. Greet visitors, provide routine information and assistance to students, employees, and the general public. (E)

3. Provide information to callers and visitors to the building, including assistance with directions to the college and to specific campus locations and determining the appropriate college department or staff member to assist the caller/campus visitor. (E)

Education & Experience:
Education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.

Working Conditions:
Primarily works in an office environment. Subject to frequent interruptions by individuals in person or by telephone; intermittent exposure to individuals acting in a disagreeable fashion. May work at any district location or authorized facility during day and/or evening hours with occasional evenings and/or weekends on an as-needed basis. Occasional local travel may be requested.
