Job Description Summary

The Kinesiology, Health Science, and Athletics Division at Cuesta College is seeking a Full-Time Tenure Track faculty member to teach in the Public Health and Health Sciences Departments. The candidate will be expected to provide leadership for the Public health and Health Science courses as well as the Associate Degree of Transfer (ADT) in Public Health and the pending Liberal Arts Degree in Health and Wellness. In particular, the candidate will have responsibility for course development, maintenance of courses to align with changes in Transfer Model Curriculums (TMC), and program review. In addition, the candidate will have additional college and divisional responsibilities as outlined below.

Teaching Responsibilities:

Teaching begins with good preparation including choosing appropriate textbooks, writing a clear syllabus that outlines classroom expectations and content to be covered, and creating a plan for content delivery. Part of teaching responsibilities also include determining the best way to assess student learning and student learning outcomes and assigning grades accordingly. It also includes communicating with your students throughout the semester, being available during office hours, and identifying college services available for students, as appropriate. Due to changes in delivery, all teachers are expected to become online teaching certified. Given the needs of the department to offer online courses, all instructors are expected to complete an online teaching certification course in the Fall 2025 semester.

Scheduling and working with PT Instructors in the department

Liaise with community about curriculum changes, job opportunities, or scholarship opportunities for students

Distance Education Certification (at least by Fall 2025)

Selected applicants will be asked to interview for a full-time tenure track position as a Public Health and Health Science professor in the Public Health and Health Sciences Departments either Monday, May 13 or Tuesday, May 14, 2024. Second interviews will be held via Zoom on Friday, May 16, 2024. The selected applicant will begin their full-time teaching assignment in the 2024-2025 school year which begins on August 6, 2024. Assignments may be day, evening, or online classes on the San Luis Obispo Campus, North County Campus in Paso Robles, South County Center in Arroyo Grande, other sites within San Luis Obispo County, or Distance Education.

Essential Functions & Qualifications

Required:
-Master's in public health, health science, health education, nursing, nutrition, dietetics, exercise science, kinesiology, biology, or physical education from an accredited institution;
OR
-Bachelor's in any of the above from an accredited institution AND Master's in any biological science from an accredited institution;
OR
-The equivalent. (Candidates applying on the basis of equivalency must submit all materials requested for an equivalency judgment. For directions on what is an acceptable equivalency argument please review the requirements listed on the HR Website or see further information on Equivalency Petition Process Information below.).
OR
-A valid Community College credential in the discipline (If received prior to 1990, as the credential is no longer being issued).

Required:
-Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Desirable:
-Teaching experience in Public Health, Public Health Science and/or Health Science, community college level preferred;
-Awareness of the philosophy and objectives of California Community Colleges.

Interview Process Information

Selected applicants will be invited to give a teaching demonstration, and an interview on Monday, May 13 or Tuesday, May 14. 2024.

First Interviews will be held in person or via Zoom by candidate request. In person interviews are preferred and, in the interest of equity, candidates will be reimbursed up to $500 toward their travel expenses if they choose to interview on campus. Virtual teaching and lab demonstrations will be evaluated using the same criteria as in-person demonstrations and will be expected to facilitate similar levels of effectiveness, skill, engagement and interaction.

Second interviews will be held via Zoom on Friday, May 16, 2024.

The selected applicant will begin their full-time teaching assignment in the Fall semester of the 2024-2025 school year, which begins on Tuesday, August 6, 2024.
