Primary Purpose of Organization Unit:
The University of North Carolina Pembroke Police and Public Safety is responsible for maintaining a safe learning and working environment for our Students, Staff, Faculty, and visitors.

Primary Purpose of Position:
The Property Security Officer operates within the UNCP University Department of Police and Public Safety. This position is responsible for providing security support and helping enforce policy and procedures to our campus community. This position is responsible for foot patrolling the designated properties and buildings, interior and exterior mainly to the Jones P.E. the GPAC and the University Center. This position will also be responsible for monitoring access in each areas checking IDs to confirm that people inside the building are approved to be inside these areas. and Hall Entry Cards for each student that enters the building along with guest registration
during the assigned work hours.This position may require rotating shift, weekend and/or overtime work.

Job Description:
Patrols assigned area on foot, in assigned motor vehicle, or other specialized vehicle to ensure personal, building, and equipment security. Examines doors, windows, and gates to ensure security; uses University keys to open and close buildings; monitors closed buildings for unauthorized persons and/or suspicious activities. Informs and warns violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden items. Provides escort services for visitors, students, staff, and faculty, as necessary; provides other public assistance when requested by, such as lockout services, jump-starts, and routine information. Watches for and reports irregularities, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards, and emergency situations; contacts emergency responders, such as police, fire, and/or ambulance personnel, as required. Remains alert for the presence of unauthorized persons and/or security code violators; approaches suspicious persons and/or notifies police as appropriate; may confront and/or detain violators, as required, until police arrive. Performs periodic checks of emergency call boxes and/or streetlights to ensure proper functioning; reports malfunctions as required. May provide safe and efficient transportation to university employees and/or visitors, as requested, using an institutional vehicle. Patrols and monitors assigned parking areas and/or provide public security and assistance.Maintains security controls for issued University keys; safeguards and controls issued University equipment. Prepares routine, standardized reports. May provide specialized security in other complex operational area, requiring specific knowledge of the operating environment. Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

This position is Mandatory Personnel: Employees whose presence has been determined to be mandatory to University operations during certain types of adverse weather or emergency events.

Management Preference:
Good communication skills, strong awareness of their surroundings and the ability to deal with conflict.

Lic or Certifications Required by Statute or Regulation: High School diploma or equivalent and sufficient experience to demonstrate ability to handle emergency situations. A valid N.C. Drivers License required.
