In compliance with SB 1162, Western University of Health Sciences is providing a pay scale for this position. The pay scale reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position. Within this range, the individual pay is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, and work location. Please note that the compensation details listed reflects the base salary only.

Job Summary
The Postdoctoral Fellowship in Rehabilitation Research is designed for professionals (MD, DPT, OTD, PhD) who wish to gain expertise in movement science and rehabilitation and pursue a career focused on research, dissemination and translation of research findings and scholarly educational activities. Fellows work to further the College of Health Science's mission of understanding how disease, injury, lifestyle, and aging impact health across the lifespan, and how rehabilitation can promote health and improve the quality of life.The Postdoctoral Fellow in Rehabilitation Research reports directly to the Chair of DPTE-OR, but would collaborate with and be mentored by the full-time faculty in CHS-NW. Potential for teaching and research collaboration would exist beyond CHS-NW, for example in Western University's College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific (in California and Oregon). The position is a 12-month, renewable contract.

Individuals must possess the knowledge, as well as the following skills and abilities or be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
  1. Effective communication of knowledge and procedure in physical therapy to students at a graduate level.
  2. The ability to work independently while maintaining cooperative working relationships within a collaborative environment.
  3. Knowledge of how to carry out collaborative research in an academic environment.
  4. Ability to interact with students, faculty, staff, and visitors effectively, professionally, and tactfully.
  5. Proficiency in using Microsoft Office, the internet, and email.
  6. Must be able to maintain confidentiality including knowledge of the Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).


Required Qualifications
  1. Doctorate Degree (MD, DPT, OTD, PhD) completed is highly preferred. Consideration will be given to candidates who are in a doctoral program and have completed all but the dissertation, provided there is a clear and short timeline toward completion.
  2. Preferences will be given to those with previous research experience in rehabilitation.

Research and Scholarship:


Conduct research: Develop a research program in collaboration with physical therapy faculty.


Research Supervision: Mentor graduate students in research projects, guide literature reviews, and promote evidence-based practice.


Scholarly Activities: Engage in scholarly pursuits such as data collection, publishing research, presenting at conferences, and staying current with literature.

Grant writing: generate grant proposals and apply for external research support in collaboration with the faculty mentor.
