Part Time Pool - Welding Instructor

Position Summary:
The Welding Instructor is a part time faculty position at South Seattle College (SSC). The primary instructional assignment will be to teach a diverse range of welding and fabricating courses at South Seattle College.

This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by AFT Seattle and is subject to union shop provisions.


Essential Functions:
  • Develop and teach a wide range of welding and fabricating courses including but not limited to: Shop safety, power tools, OAW, OFC, SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, fabrication, pipe welding, print reading, materials and related topics.
  • May be assigned to teach additional related courses depending upon the instructor's background and experience.
  • Collaborate with other faculty to support the program, acquire materials, repair equipment, and other essential functions as assigned.
  • Collaborate in planning and developing curriculum and schedules within the context of division goals.
  • Other duties include student conferences, course and curriculum development, participation in division activities and other professional responsibilities as specified.


Required Education, Experience & Abilities:
  • High school diploma
  • Successful industry experience as a welder/fabricator
  • Skill in using computer applications including word processing, spread sheets, email, others as necessary.
  • WABO Welding certification, or equivalent.
  • Experience teaching and working with diverse student populations including students of various physical capabilities, socio-economic, educational, racial, ethnic, and language backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate knowledge and skills effectively, both orally and in writing, to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to become an AWS Certified Welding Inspector.
  • Ability to become Washington State Vocationally Certified.
