JOB DESCRIPTION


GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Under an assigned supervisor, Cuyamaca College tenured and tenure track librarians participate in the planning, implementation and evaluation of library programs and services that will facilitate learning, support the college curriculum, and contribute to the mission of the college and the district. Librarians are expected to perform other duties consistent with their faculty job description as stated in the faculty agreement.

  • This position will be responsible for assessing new discovery resources, databases, and related products, providing leadership and quality control for management of library database and discovery resources, digital resources and services, URL resolvers, and other emerging technologies, managing library web platforms, such as LibGuides and library content management systems, and serving as a liaison with library vendors and managing authentications systems, serving a collection development liaison with instruction and student services departments in assigned subject areas for print and e-collections. All Cuyamaca College librarians are assigned reference desk hours. Reference service usually includes providing individual informal bibliographic instruction. All librarians are also expected to provide some formal group bibliographic instruction. Group bibliographic instruction is usually given to classes in connection with specific research assignments. These presentations make use of the library's web page interface with the automated catalog using a computer and data projector. Other professional responsibilities include collection development, media selection, and may include selection of periodicals and electronic resources. Committee work outside the library is expected.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: APPLICANTS MUST MEET ONE OF THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:
  • Master's in library science, library and information science; OR
  • A current California Community College Credential that permits full-time service as a Librarian; OR
  • The equivalent. (will submit equivalency form during application).

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Providing reference service.
  • Working effectively and professionally with students and colleagues.
  • Collection development.
  • Library information systems and advanced technologies including: computers, bibliographic utilities, multimedia hardware and software, electronic databases, utilities such as (OCLC) On-Line Computer Library Center, on-line catalogs, Internet, and information networks.
  • Bibliographic instruction.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Applicants must demonstrate sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to catalog non-print materials using (LC) Library of Congress authority systems, (AACR-2) American Association of Cataloging Rules?2nd Edition and (MARC) Machine Readable Cataloging format.
  • Experience working in an Academic (college or university) Library.
  • Ability to write grants and develop proposals.
  • Commitment to remain current in library and information science.
  • Skills and abilities to motivate students from a broad spectrum of cultural, socioeconomic and language backgrounds.
  • Ability to develop outreach programs.
  • Ability to develop instructional programs in the library and information field.
