Job Summary:

The Department of Ophthalmology seeks a full-time Research Services Entry-Level Professional. This position will perform cell culture and animal research The Department of Ophthalmology is housed in the Sue Anschutz-Rodgers Eye Center on the Anschutz Medical Campus. This state-of-the-art facility is one of the largest eye centers in the country and serves not only patients in the Rocky Mountain region but also patients all over the world.

The technological innovations conceived and developed by departmental faculty have changed the practice of eye care throughout the world. Our educational programs train the next generation of leaders in ophthalmology. Our specialists have developed national and international reputations for excellence in routine and complex ophthalmic care. We have invested heavily in tracking our clinical outcomes and we are proud that our clinicians perform at the highest levels in their respective fields.

The mission of the Department of Ophthalmology is to be a nationally recognized department of ophthalmology by providing exemplary patient care founded on educational leadership, innovative research, and high ethical standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with and support the Principal Investigator (PI), Lab Manager, and other lab members with laboratory and research functions.
  • Animal experiments, including eye surgeries.
  • Culture, maintenance, and expansion of human and animal cells.
  • Regular maintenance of laboratory chemical and reagent inventories.
  • Prepare lab for daily operations, including stocking materials, equipment, safety, cleanliness, and related areas.
  • Support of laboratory research by performing laboratory maintenance duties, including autoclaving materials, preparing solutions, and other tasks as assigned by the laboratory manager.
  • Performing other bench science experiments in support of research projects as needed.
  • Communicating effectively with the PI, lab manager and other lab members, and maintaining a professional conduct.
  • Maintaining an organized and up-to-date laboratory notebook.
  • Aiding the Lab manager with lab organization, maintaining inventory and ensuring regulatory compliance and lab safety.
  • Participating in lab meetings and departmental seminars and journal clubs.

Work Location:

Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience or background within an experimental or wet lab.
  • Experience in cell culture and animal experiments.
  • Experience in a research laboratory environment.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $45,00 - $57,240.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
