Position Summary:

North Seattle College is seeking a full-time, tenure track Political Science Instructor who is invested in developing innovative curriculum that fosters student engagement. The college embraces dynamic instruction, inclusivity, and student empowerment as essential components in teaching, working, and hiring, and welcomes faculty with a commitment to holistically serving students from diverse backgrounds. This position will shape the direction of our Political Science department. We seek applicants who utilize approaches in the classroom that reflect pedagogical innovations in the field (e.g., active learning, team-taught integrative learning) and are motivated to connect curriculum to current events. This position reports to the Dean of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences and begins Fall Quarter 2019.

Essential Functions:
  • Employ various student-centered pedagogies in political science courses in support of student success
  • Teach 15 credits (3 five-credit) of introductory classes per quarter including American Government and International Relations
  • Participate in division, department, and college activities, including ongoing curriculum development, assessment, faculty development, and class scheduling
  • Contribute to our culture of engaged teaching and learning by collaborating with colleagues
  • Perform other professional responsibilities as specified in the faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement such as holding office hours and responding to college communications


Required Education, Experience & Abilities:
  • Master's Degree in Political Science, Government, International Studies, or related field
  • College-level teaching experience in Political Science, Government, International Relations, or related field(s)
  • Experience teaching in a range of modalities (online, hybrid, web-enhanced) using a Learning Management System (e.g., Canvas)
  • Demonstrated ability to teach a range of political science courses, including American Government and International Relations
  • Demonstrated ability to connect and build collaborative relationships with a diverse population of students, colleagues, and community members
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, social justice, and civic engagement both inside and outside the classroom
