Position Summary:

Class assignments are 3 classes per quarter (9 classes per year) and may include daytime, evening, and online courses as well as team-taught integrated studies classes. Primary teaching responsibility is English composition courses (6-9 sections per year is likely) and the ideal candidate will have a high enthusiasm for college-level composition. Secondary teaching responsibilities may include developmental English, technical writing, literature, creative writing, or humanities courses, depending on the instructor's experience and interests, as well as and college needs. The individual hired will develop curricula, participate in program assessment and in division and committee assignments, mentor students, and work collaboratively with other faculty to develop and teach new courses. The position reports to the dean of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences and begins Fall Quarter 2019.

Essential Functions:


Required Education, Experience & Abilities:
  • Master's degree in English, Composition, or Rhetoric, or MFA in English from an accredited institution
  • Recent teaching experience in college-level composition
  • Proficiency in using classroom technology
  • Experience developing curricula and materials
  • Experience in teaching English online and/or web-enhanced courses and working with Learning Management Systems
  • Experience working with students for whom English is not a first language (international, immigrant, and refugee populations)
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in furthering the educational development of and/or effectively teaching persons from diverse backgrounds such as racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, sexual orientation, socio-economic, and physical and learning abilities
