Job Description:
In conjunction with the Vice President of Community Engagement, the Executive Director of Community Engagement is responsible for planning, developing, and maintaining relationships with individuals, community organizations, and the business communities within the Central New York region to facilitate and support positive engagement opportunities. These relationships are fostered through the communication of university programs, its mission, culture, and objectives. Serves as a liaison with community partners, non-profit agencies, and local city and county governments in the Central New York region. This position provides direction to support the One University approach to effective impact and engagement with key partners in the community. The Executive Director of Community Engagement will manage the staff in this group, ensuring appropriate deployment of resources and support of organizations in the community.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in public affairs, communications, business, or other closely related field.
  • Eight (8) plus years of experience working in community or government relations, communications, or other related experience.
  • Successful track record of convening community stakeholders and facilitating effective strategies for program development and initiatives.
  • Highly skilled at representing the Universitys goals and priorities to community partners.
  • Must have strong communications and organizational skills that support communicating stakeholders goals and perspectives to University leadership.
  • Ability to clearly define partnership goals, identify effective processes and assess outcomes.
  • Effective verbal and written communicator.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs.


Job Specific Qualifications:
  • Must have experience working with community organizations, businesses, and external stakeholders to create, support, and enhance the position/impact the University has on the community in the region.
  • Must have strong organizational skills to manage direct reports who assist in facilitating and engaging with stakeholder organizations and people in the community as programs are developed and implemented.
  • Must have strong inter-personal skills supporting key relationships, both internal and external, with community groups and key stakeholders.
  • Must have strong communication skills to share information and plans for program initiatives and activities that support/enhance the relationship with the community stakeholders.
  • Track record of advancing diversity and cultivating an inclusive culture within a professional and/or educational setting.


Responsibilities:
  • Gain approval for and manage multiple projects independently and collaboratively related to the Central New York community engagement plan, including conceptualize, create, gain support/approval, and implement new strategies for the benefit of Syracuse University and community stakeholders.
  • Supervise the Community Engagement staff to achieve this work.
  • Build on existing relationships with local organizations and stakeholders, along with foundations, corporations, and nonprofit organizations to build support and maintain positive partnerships that enhance the Universitys role in the region.
  • In conjunction with the VP of Government Relations and Community Engagement, ensure alignment of community engagement strategies, partnerships, programs, and initiatives with Academic Strategic Plan.
  • Build and implement accountability systems and processes that measure partnership and program accomplishments towards stated goals.
  • Coordinate with other university departments working directly with community and business organizations.
