Job Summary

The Program in Environmental Design invites applications for a Visiting Researcher! This temporary position will begin May 1, 2024 and ends October 31, 2024. It is funded through a sponsored project between the University of Colorado Boulder and the City of Boulder, Colorado.
The collaboration between the Program in Environmental Design and the City of Boulder is a dimension of a cultural partnership between the country of Tajikistan, residents of and visitors to Boulder, CU Boulder/ENVD, the Center for Community Engagement, Design, and Research, and Boulder Dushanbe Sister Cities. The project involves the visit of a master Tajik artisan with expertise in the craft of historic Persian painting and design, who will train ENVD students, preparing them to assist his efforts to restore the exterior artwork of the Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Assist in drafting a chapter for an edited book with an academic press exemplifying the restoration project in all its facets.
  • Participate as a featured guest in a public symposium to introduce the collective efforts involved with the Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse restoration.
  • Perform restoration on the Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse.
  • Co-teach an ENVD course for the purpose of training students in Persian design techniques. The course will take place during one of the summer 2024 academic terms.

  • This is a temporary position beginning May 1, 2024 and ending October 31, 2024.
  • The University of Colorado Boulder will assist applicant with obtaining a visa.

What We Require

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Advanced knowledge of historic Persian painting and design techniques specific to the restoration of the Dushanbe Teahouse.
  • Previous experience teaching historic Perisan painting and design techniques.
  • Applicant must be able to arrive and stay in the U.S. for the period of employment (May 1 - October 31, 2024).
