Job Summary
CEW+ is seeking applications for a temporary, DEI Program Assistant position. This position is a time-limited, through 8/31/20 with the option to renew for an additional 6 months with satisfactory performance and available funding.

Description:CEW+ empowers women and underserved individuals in the University of Michigan and surrounding communities by serving as an advocate and providing resources to help them reach their academic, financial, and professional potential. This position will support the work of CEW+'s programs and special events which focus on diversity and advocacy initiatives for students, staff, and faculty.

This position requires attention to detail, ability to work with minimal supervision, and advanced computer knowledge is desirable. All candidates will be required to exercise independent judgement and employ basic reasoning skills.

Under direct supervision of the Staff Program Manager, the DEI Program Assistant provides administrative support to CEW+ advocacy programs.

Responsibilities*
  • Provide program and administrative support for CEW+'s DEI advocacy programs, including the Women of Color Task Force (WCTF) and the Women of Color in the Academy Project (WOCAP)
  • Suggest creative new material for the WCTF & WOCAP website content to increase staff & faculty engagement
  • Track membership for each group
  • Assist program managers in event preparation and venue set-up to ensure high-quality and timely delivery of events and programs as needed.
  • Review and suggest edits for documents including reports and promotional materials
  • Support DEI Lead with initial draft content for the CEW+ annual DEI report

Women of Color in the Academy Project (WOCAP) - 25%WOCAP: is a campus-wide faculty network at U-M, committed to highlighting the work of women of color scholars, promoting their development, creating a supportive and inclusive community, and advocating for institutional change on their behalf
  • Provide general administrative support and assistance for WOCAP events and activities
  • Create flyers and draft content for event descriptions and registration forms
  • Assist with special projects and activities related to increasing WOCAP members' social media engagement

Women of Color Task Force (WCTF) - 35%WCTF is a University of Michigan staff organization, that provides professional development, networking, and training opportunities for employees, with a focus on addressing the needs of women of color staff
  • Draft and document project plans to capture the necessary steps for execution and evaluation of training programs.
  • Support logistics for the WCTF annual career conference, leadership retreat and training workshops
  • Send out general membership meeting notices, event reminders, and schedule WCTF executive team meetings
  • Suggest innovative new content for the WCTF social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter) to increase staff engagement
  • Create flyers and draft content for event descriptions

Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent office experience
  • 2+ years of professional experience assisting with programs and special projects
  • Excellent judgment and capability to perform well in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic proficiency with excel and ability to create formulas and sort data.
  • Ability to set priorities, work simultaneously on numerous tasks with multiple staff, strong attention to details, and able to meet deadlines
  • Professional demeanor and excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Work professionally and independently with high efficiency and productivity.
  • Comfortable working with the public and serving as a representative of CEW+
  • Proficient in Google Suite applications (Calendar, Forms, Sheets, Docs, etc.) and MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives

Desired Qualifications*
  • Intermediate proficiency with Excel. Must be able to generate statistics, run pivot tables, do vlookup, etc.
  • Interest in and capability of learning new software applications
  • Some administrative experience working in an academic environment
  • Knowledge of the University of Michigan policies, programs and core values

Additional Information
  • Travel across campus to attend meetings/events will be necessary
  • This role does require occasional carrying/ lifting 20+ lbs for event materials (carts are typically available to assist with these tasks)
  • This role may require occasional work during early mornings, nights, and/or weekends
