Job Summary:

The Communications Program Manager is responsible for developing a holistic communication strategy to expand communication initiatives specific to Academic and Student Affairs on the Anschutz Medical Campus. This position will support the units reporting to the Executive Vice Chancellor including Faculty Affairs, Student Affairs, International Affairs, Strauss Library, Equity, Ombuds, Academic Resources, Adaptable Resolution and Enrollment Operations.

The Communications Program Manager will develop and implement communication strategies both internal and external across Academic and Student Affairs units, using communication channels including newsletters, social media, and websites to carry out marketing and communications activities. This role will develop and implement communications strategies for employees within Academic and Student Affairs to ensure employees are informed and engaged and to help foster collaboration.

This role requires collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to enhance the visibility and impact of CU Anschutz Academic and Student Affairs. The person in this role creates and edits content, plans and executes outreach strategies, creates dynamic supporting content in a variety of forms and channels, ensuring brand, voice and campus standards are met. This role will provide clarity and consistency across the units and lead content-gathering for communication pieces, including researching and gathering information for department newsletters, web content, fliers, internal employee communication, annual reports, etc. This position will work collaboratively with the CU Anschutz Office of Communications.

Duties:

Develop and Manage Communications 75%:
  • Meet on a consistent, regular, and ongoing basis with units to support their communication efforts and initiatives.
  • Create, manage, and implement a strategic communication plan for Academic and Student Affairs units.
  • Create communication operating procedures and processes.
  • Responsible for content creation, design and support that includes, writing, editing, drafting content through various marketing and communication channels, including, but not limited to newsletters, social media, websites.
  • Create content and oversee design for annual Year End Reports
  • Create content and oversee design for special projects, such as the Enhancing the Student Experience Strategic Initiative Report or Library Wishes Campaign.
  • Collecting content to develop templates that support messaging sent out such as weekly/monthly/quarterly newsletter for units.
  • Ensure all communications are of the highest quality, conform to branding guidelines, convey a consistent organizational image, are accessible and appropriate for intended audiences.
  • Responsible for the implementation of unit designs, ensures that all products are in compliance with CU Anschutz branding.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Communications team for communication and marketing strategies and various projects.
  • Create content, write articles and post important initiatives.
  • Serve as point of contact for units on questions and concerns related to press releases and news/media items.
  • Act as a liaison with the Office of Communications, communications directors at the schools/college, ODEICE et. al. to share information and help coordinate and amplify news/comms/initiatives as appropriate for units.

Website/Social Media Content Management 25%:
  • Manage website content, design, online presence, and social media strategy.
  • Create departmental procedures and intake request process, manage the creation of the websites, monitor the social media sites.
  • Update, create, manage, and maintain social media platforms and web resource projects using campus CMS platform.
  • Attend and create posts for select campus student events.
  • Analyze and report out social media and website analytics to guide communication strategies.
  • Ensure website information is accurate and updated timely.
  • Proactively develop and implement messaging plans and communication strategies.

Work Location:

Hybrid – this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business, marketing, communications, public or media relations, journalism or related field.
    • Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
  • 4 years of experience in communications, writing, creating and managing content using a content management system AND/OR creating and developing content campaigns and strategies.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with accessible web design and digital experiences.
  • Experience using CRM databases, CMS systems or other web content management tools, and developing content for web.
  • Experience with social media campaigns.
  • Experience writing, editing, proofreading and tenets of journalism, including AP style.
  • Experience working in an institution of higher education.
  • Experience with google analytics or analytics tools to track website performance.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Work effectively.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of various digital tools from email to utilizing website content management systems.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and reliable professional judgment, as well as collaboratively with a team to achieve desired results.
  • Ability to generate story ideas for newsletters and publications.
  • Excellent people skills and ability to build relationships across CU Anschutz.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of writing, editing, proofreading and tenets of journalism, including AP style.
  • Ability to actively listen and share relevant information, anticipate problems and establish/maintain effective working relationships.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Expert ability to work in a team environment, develop effective interpersonal relationships, provide respectful persistence when needed and provide superior customer service.
  • Ability to multitask, establish priorities, meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-starter who can work both independently as well as in a team.
  • Proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting hiring range for this position has been established as $65,105 to $75,000.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
