Job Description:
Syracuse University Project Advance seeks an experienced and innovative Communications Manager to join our team. The Manager is responsible for crafting SUPA's internal and external communications and for overseeing its public relations, marketing materials, website, and social media for a large and diverse community of secondary school partners and other stakeholders. The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in communications, is skilled at crafting accurate and engaging content, and is an agile results-oriented project manager. A dynamic creative who thrives in a highly collaborative environment, takes initiative, and enjoys a challenge, the Communications Manager is responsible for envisioning and executing a comprehensive outreach strategy aligned with program and university objectives. This position also occasionally represents the program and university at conferences and functions.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree and five (5+) plus years, experience in communications, public relations, marketing, or a related field.
  • Masters degree preferred.
  • Experience in a higher education or nonprofit setting preferred but not required.


Job Specific Qualifications:
  • Skilled in CMS (WordPress) and Adobe CC (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • Familiarity with Syracuse University brand guidelines and design software for creating visual content a plus.
  • Exceptional written & interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to create and edit engaging, timely content for diverse audiences
  • Skilled at community building with a student-centered focus
  • Superior organizational & project management skills; detail- & results-oriented
  • Self-starter capable of multitasking & adapting to changing priorities
  • Brings a creative mindset and positive outlook to projects & day-to-day tasks
  • Collaborates effectively with internal & external stakeholders
  • Stays current with communications/marketing trends & resources
  • Excellent judgment and ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters with discretion, integrity, and tact
  • Ability to represent the program and university at public events; willingness to travel
  • Demonstrates a commitment to promoting a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Knowledge of digital marketing principles/best practices & media relations experience
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and experience managing social media accounts for organizations


Responsibilities:
COMMUNICATIONS
  • Write, edit, review, design SUPA internal and external communications, including newsletters, program guides, policy documents, memos, announcements, etc.
  • Develop, execute, and update comprehensive communications strategy aligned with program and university objectives and that differentiates SUPA
  • Ensure messaging is relevant, timely and consistent
  • Collaborate with program partners and stakeholders to identify and capture compelling stories and information that highlight program impact and raise the profile of Project Advance


MARKETING
  • Create digital and print assets for marketing collateral, event displays, posters, brochures, videos, advertisements
  • Cultivate relationships with media outlets and other organizations to promote SUPA in various markets
  • Create timely, accurate and engaging content for press releases and articles in coordination with SUs Communications Division and external outlets
  • Collaborate with and manage external vendors and agencies for marketing initiatives and research as necessary
  • Remain current with and adhere to established university brand guidelines
  • Represent the program and university at conferences, functions, community events, etc.
WEBSITE and SOCIAL MEDIA CONTENT MANAGEMENT
  • Oversee redesign of the SUPA website and manage content, regular updates and accessibility
  • Write, edit, update, maintain, analyze digital communications
  • Ensure website content is accurate, current, accessible, and on brand
  • Coordinate with external vendors, e.g., graphic designers, web developers, on major website platform updates
  • Develop and implement social media strategies to increase visibility, foster community, and engage with target audience
  • Oversee the curation of content on social media platforms, including Facebook, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, and monitor social media channels; respond to inquiries and ensure community values are adhered to
PUBLIC RELATIONS
  • Monitor SUPAs media presence
  • Evaluate opportunities for strategic partnerships, e.g., identify and participate in regional/national conferences; engage in and help facilitate information sessions and stakeholder meetings; and publicize special events
  • Other position-related responsibilities as assigned.
