The Chatbot Communication Consultant will independently meet with campus constituents to assess the quality of existing answers, design conversation flow diagrams, anticipate new and developing questions, and consider newly developing answers for the CSUSB Ask Cody chatbot. Develop and expand the chatbot to interact with data and end users, improve interactions, and create deeper connections to structured and unstructured institutional data. Research and recommend available data sources, connections, and functionalities to meet university needs. Develop thorough solutions to a wide range of problems that arise as a result of interactions with the bot and the delivery of answers, whether programmable or delivered by the use of AI tools.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Meet independently with campus constituents and work with programmers to assess the quality of existing answers, design conversation flow diagrams, anticipate new and developing questions, and consider newly developing answers for the CSUSB Ask Cody chatbot. Independently evaluate functionality and quality of responses by the bot and maintain and edit the chatbot documentation. Gather requirements and ensure high quality, effective presentation and proper operation of the chatbot and the interactions dashboard. Develop thorough solutions to a wide range of problems that arise as a result of interactions with the bot and the delivery of answers, whether programmable or delivered by the use of AI tools.
  • The Chatbot Communications Consultant will develop and expand the chatbot to interact with data and end users, improve interactions, and create deeper connections to structured and unstructured institutional data. Assess the functional requirements of the campus bot and the interactions dashboard for clients and recommend solutions. Independently conduct or participate in departmental data collection sessions with content experts and informational contributors to gain understanding of topics and procedures to better assess the quality of answers and their connections to the words and phrases asked of the chatbot. Work cooperatively with the department UX Developer to identify areas in need of improvement.
  • The Chatbot Communications Consultant will research and recommend available data sources, connections, and functionalities to meet university needs. Independently identify the need for and assist in the creation of new data sources (existing or not) and new functionality. Work cooperatively with division programmers to connect to new data sources, assist in the implementation of APIs and access data from multiple internal and external systems. Coordinate with programmers to debug, add features, and interact with third-party vendors to implement new changes to the university chatbot.

Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and Experience
  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Educational Technology, Communications, or related technical field and two years of related experience required.

Required Qualifications
  • Ability to demonstrate competence in independently applying technical judgment to standard and nonstandard applications and systems, solving a wide range of problems and developing practicable and thorough solutions, and using effective communication and listening skills.
  • Working knowledge of common software application packages, equipment platforms, reference database systems and sources, and training methods and a basic understanding of networks, data communication, and multimedia systems.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Should have strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Knowledge of JavaScript libraries.
  • Experience with chatbot development frameworks and libraries (Microsoft Bot Framework, Dialogflow, Rasa, or Botpress)Knowledge and experience with Google's Dialogflow and BigQuery.
  • Experience with React, Express, Dialogflow, GCP, BigQuery, and NodeJS.
  • Knowledge and experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Understanding of React and Express.
  • Experience working in or with higher education.
  • Familiarity with WCAG 2.0 web accessibility content guidelines.
  • Understanding of HTML & CSS.

Compensation and Benefits:

Anticipated Hiring Range: $4,912 - $5,000 per month

Classification Salary Range: $4,912 - $12,124 per month

The salary offered will take into account internal equity and experience among other factors.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Position Information:

Work status: Full-time/Exempt/Temporary (up to one year with the possibility of further renewal)

Academic year schedule: Monday through Friday (8:00 am - 5:00 pm), some evenings/weekends.

Summer schedule: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm), some evenings/weekends.
