Job Summary
Facilities and Operations (F&O) has primary responsibility for the stewardship of the university's physical properties, including nearly 36 million square feet of building space. We are responsible for supporting sophisticated and complex academic, research and clinical facilities, as well as environmental stewardship and regulatory compliance. We optimize our resources to support the university's commitment to academic excellence and cost containment. The Office of Campus Sustainability (OCS) is responsible for driving institutional sustainability efforts throughout operations, research, and healthcare. This position is a part of the Energy Management (EM) team, a subset of the OCS.

The BI Analyst will create and maintain a robust data infrastructure and reporting tools to support the daily work of the EM team for energy management decision making, as well as other projects across all OCS focus areas. Various data sets are available to the team including daily consumption of utilities at the meter level, daily weather data, and calculated baselines for each meter. Comparing daily performance to the baseline model will allow the EM staff to identify building energy conservation opportunities. The Energy Management effort is focused on building optimization to reduce energy consumption, contain costs, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions tied to institutional sustainability goals. The position will report directly to the Manager of Energy Management.

NOTE: This is a three year term-limited position.

Responsibilities*
  • Develop, maintain, and improve dashboards and reports used by OCS teams and leadership, including coordinated effort with other F&O departments
  • Manage ad-hoc requests to fix and update existing reports, answer report/data related questions, helping team members with documentation
  • Gather requirements and engage with stakeholders to help design and format front-end Tableau reports
  • Ensure data is accurate and data displays according to requirements provided
  • Responsible for documentation of processes to build and maintain reports
  • Help define criteria for metrics and understand where data is sourced
  • Support data entry and management of GIS efforts across OCS
  • Support faculty and student-driven projects related to energy conservation

Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience supporting organization creating and maintaining data infrastructure and reporting tools
  • Organizational skills, written, and verbal skills
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong team player with the ability to take initiative and work well independently
  • Adaptable and quick learner, willingness to acquire and develop new skills as needed
  • Adaptability and flexibility to adjust to fluctuating changes in project needs
  • Passion for delivering compelling solutions that exceed customer expectations
  • Demonstrated proficiency with current computer technology and applications (i.e. Tableau, Google Docs, Microsoft Office Suite, work management interface, etc.)
  • Ability to construct simple to moderate SQL statements to query and access data in various RDBMS such as Oracle, SQLServer, MySQL
  • Experience creating reports and dashboards in Tableau
  • Ability to travel frequently between sites across the U-M Ann Arbor campus
  • Ability to work autonomously and make self-directed decisions about priorities and work

Desired Qualifications*
  • Ability to use query tools to obtain data from data sources
  • Experience using programming language such as Python
  • Experience working with a diverse population at all levels, including bargained for and non-bargained for staff, faculty, and students
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Experience with digital building control technology and building automation systems (BAS)
  • Knowledge of building heating, ventilation, air conditioning, electrical, and water systems
  • Experience working in research laboratory facilities and with associated building systems is highly desired
  • Passion for energy conservation and waste reduction activities or environmental action
  • Experience in a higher education, public service, or a non-profit organization is highly desired
  • Demonstrated proficiency with AiM software (work management interface)

Work Schedule
Work schedule is primarily regular business hours; however, candidate must be able to adjust their schedule for occasional after hours work-related duties.
