Job Description:
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Office of Sponsored Accounting.


Qualifications:
  • A bachelors degree in accounting, business, information technology or a related field and knowledge of and familiarity with federal regulations and principles is required.
  • Ten or more years of experience in accounting field, financial analysis and federally sponsored research strongly preferred.


Job Specific Qualifications:
  • Progressively responsible experience in sponsored accounting or related research support, including extensive knowledge of PeopleSoft financials, including the grants module, federal regulations and University policies and procedures.
  • Direct experience developing and delivering stand up training to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Experience in direct supervision and management of professional staff.
  • Strong and proven analytical and reconciliation abilities.
  • Ability to represent the unit professionally and effectively with individuals at all levels within and outside of the University.
  • Strong and proven verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.






Responsibilities:
  • Responsibility for overall day to day operations of Sponsored Accounting department, including, but not limited to preparation of financial reports, award set up, award closings, invoicing, electronic withdrawals, including federal financial aid draws, account reconciliations, collections, cash management, sponsored tuition issues, interpretation of federal guidelines on all aspects of sponsored awards, effort reporting and issue resolution with campus clients and other service departments.
  • Additionally, ensure the integrity of all sponsored funds and ensure that the University is in compliance with federal, state, private and other guidelines with respect to spending, reporting and billing.
  • The Assistant Director will forge and maintain strong collaborative relationships within the Office of Sponsored Accounting, the Office of Sponsored Programs, school / department budget managers, along with other departments of Syracuse University, and award recipients.
  • Plan, create and deliver formal, stand-up training for campus clients, including departmental administrators, Principal Investigators, and other award personnel.
  • Train and educate award recipients on Sponsored Accounting procedures, along with federal, state and private policies and practices regarding awards. Work closely with functional business analysts to optimize all PeopleSoft Financial System functions, including developing criteria for reports, refining reports, resolving system issues, optimizing information, reducing errors, creating documentation for new or improved processes, and ensuring proper system function.
  • Provide assistance, guidance, and troubleshooting to end users.
  • Compile and analyze financial and other information required by awards or requested by management.
  • Other position-related duties as assigned.
