Job Summary

The University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for an Assistant Alpine Ski Coach! The purpose of this position is to assist in the coaching, personal and team development of student athletes, in order to compete for and win National Championships. This position will assist the Head Coach in the coaching of athletes as well as planning, organization and administration of all facets of the Ski program.This position is responsible for promoting the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program. This shall include adhering to the principles of the Athletic Department's Mission Statement, Diversity and Inclusion Mission Statement, Core Values, Policies and Procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the University, the Big 12 Conference and the NCAA. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Athletic Success:
  • Evaluate, analyze and instruct student-athletes in off-season and in-season training, practice, and competition. Consult with the Head Coach and student-athletes to determine the best race strategies for the conditions and the course. Conduct video analysis with Alpine skiers to determine ways to improve technique and tactics. Use video post-competition to analyze areas of improvement. Consult with the coaching staff and student-athletes to determine the best wax to use, for the appropriate conditions, in order to optimize performance. Help maintain the training and racing environments and teach correct safety technique in order to prevent injuries. Win Conference and National Championships.
Academic/Administrative Success:
  • Responsible for tracking the student-athlete's countable athletic related activity (CARA logs) and other compliance related documentation and upload appropriate documents to Jump Forward. Serve as a liaison to Academics, Compliance, and Sports Information. Communicate practice and travel schedules with the team, organizing meetings through Teamworks. Work closely with the Head Coach to secure cost effective reservations and travel itineraries. Submit completed expense reports in a diligent and timely manner. Attend all staff, Compliance, Department meetings and events.
Recruiting:
  • Assist the Head Coach in identifying and recruiting student-athletes who can compete for and win national championships.
  • Responsible for selection, maintenance and equipment inventory.
  • Duties include, but are not limited to, the ordering of skis, boots, etc. for the entire team as well as supplies; radios, drills, timing, gates, panels, etc. Responsible for tuning equipment and overall maintenance of program assets.
Secure and monitor team transportation:
  • Help maintain ski team van fleet. Arrange student-athlete Defensive Driving Courses and ensure student-athletes are prepared and have accurate driving supplies for safe and timely travel. Ensure team equipment is safely packed/secured for training sessions and competition travel.
  • Participate as an active member of the annual Ski Ball Gala Committee.
  • Help organized and host Ski Ball. Track attendees, Raffle items and assist in sending out invitations. Attend Regional and National Events that are held locally when appropriate.
Rules and Regulations:
  • Demonstrate a detailed knowledge of NCAA, Big12, RMISA league, university and departmental policy and regulations. Adhere to principles stated in the Athletic Departments mission statement and promote loyalty to the mission by all staff and student-athletes under their supervision.




What We Can Offer

  • Starting salary range is $60,000 - $67,600.
  • Relocation is available within department guidelines.

What We Require

  • Bachelors Degree.
  • One year of Alpine ski racing as a student athlete or one season of club level or intercollegiate.
  • Maintain good standing with USSA's Coaching Certifications.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.


What You Will Need

  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work under stress and under extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to advise student athletes on technique and racing strategy.
