About the Position:

This role is an on-campus, in-person position.

The primary duties of this position include troubleshooting and correcting routine issues with audio/video hardware and software. The position is also responsible for responding to emergency calls for assistance in the classrooms in a timely manner and providing on-campus event support. The role assists faculty, staff, students and guests of the University with technology questions or issues concerning A/V equipment. The position prioritizes requests for assistance and provides documentation as needed and maintains accurate inventory records for all campus A/V equipment.

Essential Functions:

  • Responds to requests from the SMU community for assistance with A/V equipment in classrooms, conference rooms and campus events.
  • Supports team projects including installations, documentation, inventory, and system testing.
  • Participates in career development activities to expand knowledge through technical and professional training.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

A high school diploma, or equivalent, is required. A bachelor's degree is preferred.

A minimum of one (1) year of experience in A/V technology support and a minimum of one (1) year of customer support experience is required. Must have an advanced understanding of the components used in A/V systems (including controllers, switchers, projectors, cameras, speaker connections, etc.) and other equipment used in classroom and meeting room environments. Must also have advanced knowledge of setup and use of videoconferencing equipment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills.

Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.

This position will help staff with evening and weekend work - on either Saturday or Sunday.
