Building Service Engineer

Classificaiton: Building Service Engineer
Department: Capital Programs and Facilities Management (CPFM) within the Division of Administration and Finance is committed to planning, developing, and maintaining a safe, sustainable, and high-quality learning and working environment for the campus community. Facilities Management provides oversight of university resources and assets and is responsible for the development of the University's facilities including land use planning, capital improvement, project development, construction, as well as facilities operations and maintenance including custodial services, landscape services, building trade services, mechanical and electrical, and recycling services. We seek an exceptional individual to join our Building Service Engineers team as the Building Service Engineer. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to inclusivity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Job Summary:


Essential Qualifications:
Two years of journey-level experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of boiler, heating, ventilating, refrigeration, and air conditioning equipment and systems, or the equivalent combination of formal coursework in mechanical technology and hands-on experience. Thorough knowledge of high- and low-pressure boilers, as well as heating, pneumatic, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and other mechanical equipment. Thorough knowledge of the methods, tools, and materials used in the operation, maintenance, and repair of such equipment. General knowledge of ventilation principles, thermal dynamics, and closed water systems. Working knowledge of energy management systems, including the ability to understand and use system features. Ability to install, operate, and repair HVAC equipment and systems. Demonstrated high degree of mechanical skill equivalent to journey-level in one or more related trades such as plumbing, pipe fitting, electrical or air conditioning. Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications. Ability to make rough sketches and estimate costs, time, and materials required for mechanical work. Ability ty to maintain records and retrieve data related to work performed using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems. Ability to prepare standard reports, provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants, and analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations. Ability ty to read and write at a level appropriate to the position and perform arithmetic calculations as required by the position.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.



Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Andover lnfiniti Energy Management Systems (EMS) and Building Management Systems (BMS). Experience with turbine generators, absorption chillers, and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC)-based control systems. Training in asbestos removal and asbestos safety. Knowledge of building systems in large facilities.

Must maintain authorization to operate University vehicles as required. Ability to wear a respirator. The position will carry a master key. May be required to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, carrying, climbing, kneeling, bending, and prolonged standing or walking. May be required to work at heights, in confined spaces, outdoor environments and in wet, dirty, dusty, noisy conditions, and in areas containing asbestos-containing materials in accordance with established safety procedures and regulatory requirements.
