Job Summary
The Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences at the University of Utah advances imaging technologies through activities including medical device design and prototyping, modeling, data analysis, image processing, preclinical investigation, and development of new clinical applications. Principal investigators collaborate closely with numerous departments and research units across campus, as well as external and industry partners.
We are looking for a highly motivated individual to participate in, manage, and facilitate research conducted by the department, with the goals of advancing research projects and new technologies while increasing operational efficiency, research productivity, funding, and commercialization activities. The individual will also contribute to the development of new project ideas and research capabilities.
The successful candidate will combine scientific and technical aptitude with strong organizational and project-management skills and will contribute directly to technically and scientifically complex research activities.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities Work with principal investigators to manage research projects throughout the project lifecycle, including planning, documentation, progress tracking, deliverables, and communication of issues that may affect completion. Plan, coordinate, and perform experiments and other research activities, including technical troubleshooting and implementation of new methods, technologies, and workflows. Coordinate multidisciplinary research activities involving faculty, staff, students, clinicians, engineers, scientists, institutional resources, and external collaborators. Manage laboratory equipment, including quality control, maintenance documentation, software updates, service, repairs, and coordination with manufacturers and vendors. Develop, maintain, and improve standard operating procedures and research workflows to support operational efficiency, consistency, and reproducibility. Help ensure laboratory and research operations comply with applicable institutional, regulatory, and safety requirements. Assist principal investigators and research teams with regulatory and compliance activities, including institutional research approvals and FDA submissions, amendments, reports, and related documentation. Support inspections and audits and assist with regulatory documentation, corrective actions, and process improvements. Assist with laboratory inventory, supply ordering, facilities coordination, and scheduling of equipment and shared research resources. Coordinate research activities that rely on facilities or resources external to the department. Participate in training and overseeing students and junior staff. Contribute to grant applications, research proposals, protocols, progress reports, publications, presentations, and other scientific or technical communications. Participate in laboratory and project meetings and document key decisions, action items, responsibilities, and deadlines.This job description is not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties, responsibilities, and qualifications required of employees assigned to the job.
Minimum Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).
Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels:
Supervisor, Laboratory Services: Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience or a master's (or equivalency) degree.
Senior Supervisor, Laboratory Services: Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience.
Preferences
Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, physics, imaging science, computer science, or a related scientific or technical field. Strong communication, planning, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively with scientists, engineers, clinicians, staff, students, and external collaborators. Interest or experience working across scientific, engineering, clinical, operational, and business areas. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and commonly used research, documentation, or project-management software. Experience with medical imaging, image processing, computer programming, preclinical or translational research, regulatory affairs, medical devices, statistical analysis, or laboratory operations is preferred. Experience with Horos, OsiriX, ImageJ, 3D Slicer, or comparable image-analysis software is a plus.
