Position Description

The Temporary Translation Specialist (Spanish-English) provides temporary support for a faculty-led project involving the Spanish-language translation of the LatCrit Primer. This role focuses on detailed review and verification of translated text to ensure accuracy, clarity, consistency, and quality.

Job Responsibilities
  • Conduct line-by-line and word-by-word review of Spanish-language translation of the LatCrit Primer.
  • Compare translated content against the original English text to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Identify and correct translation errors, inconsistencies, or unclear language.
  • Collaborate with faculty on revisions and finalization of translated materials.
  • Maintain high standards of quality, accuracy, and attention to detail throughout the translation process.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the project.

Schedule and Duration
  • Temporary position from May 18, 2026 through June 20, 2026.
  • Schedule to be determined based on project needs.


Qualifications

  • Fluency in English and Spanish, with strong written language skills in both languages.
  • Demonstrated experience with translation, editing, proofreading, or similar language-focused work.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and meet project deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism when working with scholarly materials.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience translating or reviewing academic, legal, or scholarly materials.
  • Familiarity with legal, scholarly, or social justice terminology.
  • Prior experience working with faculty or supporting research-related projects.

Compensation at a Glance

Salary Range: $40 per hour

Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.

Hybrid Eligible

This position may be eligible for a hybrid schedule after successful completion of an introductory work period of 3-6 months. This may mean that a hybrid eligible role will begin on-campus initially and then will transition to hybrid format following onboarding and training. Flexible work plans are subject to periodic review and may be changed or terminated at any time for any reason at the university's discretion.
