Bio-Medical Equipment Trainee

Bio-Medical Equipment Trainee - 39774 University Staff Description

University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus

Department: Facilities Management

Job Title: Bio-Medical Equipment Trainee

Position: 00847547 Requisition: #39774

Job Summary:

Learn and develop the skills needed to support the autoclave/Biomedical department that provides service in the form of maintenance and repairs for a large network of biomedical equipment at the Anschutz Medical Campus. The biomedical trainee position is a great opportunity for the department to develop its in-house biomedical technicians, who will take ownership of all assets assigned to the department's area of responsibility. Certified biomedical technicians require extensive training, normally acquired through technical training assisted by a trained biomedical technician or through manufacturer-specific training. The Facilities Management department, working with in-house trained technicians and manufacturers, can utilize both options to develop its technicians, making it more attractive to future participants and more economical for the department and customers.

Participants will learn the skills necessary to provide maintenance services and repairs on a wide range of biomedical equipment and ultralow freezers. This includes autoclaves, sterilizers, glass washers, and -80 and -20 freezers. Participants will work closely with the lead technician to develop the understanding and skills needed to inspect, adjust, calibrate, repair, replace, and ensure the proper functions of related parts and equipment. i.e., steam trap, coils, pumps, vents, valves, and other systems and components related to biomedical equipment, steam, and ultra-low systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • This position learns and develops the skills needed to support the autoclave/Biomedical department that provides service in the form of maintenance and repairs for a large network of biomedical equipment and laboratory equipment at the Anschutz Medical Campus.

  • The position learns to evaluate occupant-owned medical research sterilizing/washing, and laboratory equipment, and decides the appropriate steps to take to ensure safe, efficient, and effective operation.

  • The position learns to evaluate the operation of malfunctioning or dilapidated occupant-owned sterilizing/washing and laboratory equipment, components, and decide or recommend between replacement and repair options.

  • The position sets priorities on work assigned to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.

  • The position is responsible for making all in-house repairs and maintenance of autoclaves, sterilizers, glass washers, cage washers, refrigerators, freezers, incubators, and centrifuges.

  • The position learns to determine if the repair can be done on the equipment or if it would be more cost-effective to purchase a replacement.

  • This position uses the manufacturer's specifications and operating procedures, with standard trade practices, to evaluate the operation of different systems, equipment, and components.

  • The position speaks to the tenant/staff in an informative manner regarding the repairs needed to fix the equipment.
