Job Summary
The Distribution Center at CU Boulder encourages applications for a Shipping Technician! This position processes mail and packages for campus customers following all local, state, and federal guidelines. It requires a high degree of training and knowledge regarding shipping operations. Under the direction of Shipping Coordinator, this position will work in consultation with Export Control for shipments (packages and freight) requiring compliance. Other duties include data collecting, billing, customer service, and labor assistance with Mail & Package Services as assigned.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Shipping Duties
- Under the guidance of Shipping Coordinator, be a resource for campus on all shipping issues, concerns, and questions. Ensure adherence to shipping rules and procedures, including university, state, and federal regulations. Accurately meter mail and record billing and recharge information in meter accounting system. Process outgoing mail, packages, and freight using shipping software to find the most cost effective and timely method of shipping. Prepare pallets for shipments as needed. Keep up with the latest technological trends in package, mail, and freight processing. Follow requirements for export controls and hazardous material shipping needed for mail, freight, and, packages. Provide mail, package, and freight processing information in response to customer inquiries. Look for process improvement opportunities in consultation with management team. Package and ship items from Surplus Property.
Billing/Data Entry
- Accurately record billing for mail, package, and freight shipments. Investigate discrepancies and provide resolution to billing inquiries from customers and the area accountant. Provides benchmark information when requested. Assist in data entry of FM Accountant invoice paperwork for freight shipments, including labor charges for departments.
International Shipping Support
- Under the oversight of Shipping Coordinator:
- Ensure compliance with campus policy for documentation and data entry of international shipments.
- Assist campus customers with inquiries regarding international shipments.
- Assist campus with internal tools for international shipments.
- Attend meetings with Office of Export Controls.
- Perform Visual Compliance and HTS code research.
Warehouse Work Unit Support
- Receive and sort mail and packages as needed. Scan out curbside pickup items. Answer phone calls and emails from campus customers regarding deliveries. Assist with walk-in customers as needed. Perform light maintenance duties in the work space as needed. Follow safety policies, procedures, and guidelines, and adhere to standing operating procedures for assignments and use of equipment. Participate in and complete safety trainings. Report potential safety hazards, mistakes, accidents, and/or procedural violations in a timely manner.
What You Should Know
- This in-person position has an expected work schedule of Monday - Friday from 7:30 am - 4:00 pm.
- This role is eligible for our Facilities Management Employee Referral Program.
What We Can Offer
- The annual salary for this position is $46,128.
- If you have prior state-classified experience in the same class series as this position, your pay may be set at a higher amount per the state Step Pay Program implemented on July 1, 2024.

What We Require
- Must be a Colorado resident to apply.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- 2 years of relevant experience or a combination of related education or relevant experience equal to 2 years.
- Certifications for air shipments with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and ground shipments with DOT 49 CFR are required. Must initiate within 90 days of hire, and achieve completion within 1 year of hire.
What You Will Need
- Attention to detail, customer service, and strong communication skills.
- Knowledge of shipping and mail metering software and hardware.
- Knowledge of SCLogic software and hardware.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel.
