The Department of Neurosurgery at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for several Research Associate positions in the Academic Support Staff. This appointment will be initially for one (1) year and continuation during that time period and renewal are based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding (limited to three (3) years). Expertise is required in the specific area of omics (transcriptomics and computational skills), immunologic assays, and animal experiments/creation of novel genetic models. Successful candidates will have a demonstrated track record of project completion and publications, as well as a high level of scientific rigor. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree. Preferred applicants must have 3-5 years of experience.

Responsibilities may include working with the Principal Investigator on designing, carrying out, and analyzing complex experiments in the area of brain tumor biology as well as leading the implementation of experimental projects, design of the translational/basic science experiments to test hypotheses related to our research goals, using in vitro (cell culture/organoids), in vivo animal models, and primary patient samples. Preferred applicants will learn novel computational platforms required for analysis of single, bulk, and multiplatform chromatin, RNA, proteomic, and metabolic profiles and conduct thorough data analysis, manuscript preparation, and responsibilities related to grant preparation.

The successful applicant will have an opportunity to to learn leadership roles related to the supervision of more junior lab members and ensure the day-to-day operations of the lab, organize lab meetings, and ensure that individual lab members are ready for their presentations at the weekly lab meetings. In addition, preferred applicants will have an opportunity to develop independence in research through writing grants and peer-reviewed publications.

This position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as a highly motivated and independent thinker and worker, with a desire to work in a complex and high energy environment.
