Job Summary
The Research and Analytics Data (RAaD) team within the Office of Research Information Systems (ORIS) seeks to hire two Business Intelligence Analysts who will play key roles in advancing data-informed decision-making across research administration and the university. These positions will interpret and analyze complex data to support strategic planning, improve operational efficiency, and inform initiatives led by the Vice President for Research (VPR) and campus partners. The analysts will work closely with the VPR and research administration leadership across campus to develop reports, dashboards, analyses, and recommendations that support institutional goals.
One position is a senior-level Business Intelligence Analyst focused primarily on internal university research administration data requiring four to eight years depending on education. The second position will focus primarily on external and benchmarking data related to research activity and impact and requires two to six years depending on level and education.
Successful candidates will be detail oriented, collaborative, and skilled at turning complex data into clear and actionable insights.
Applicants for both positions must have professional experience beyond internships.

Responsibilities
Business Intelligence Analyst (Senior)
Advanced Track (P4): Salary Range: $90,000 to $105,000; or
Career Track (P3): Salary Range: $80,000 to $95,000
This role will primarily be responsible for analyzing internal university data related to the research enterprise, including but not limited to proposals and awards, expenditures, technology licensing and commercialization, and human resources and faculty appointments related to research.
The successful candidate will be a seasoned analytics professional with strong expertise in data analysis, data visualization, and stakeholder collaboration. This individual will lead highly complex analyses, translate business needs into reporting and dashboard solutions, and communicate findings and recommendations to senior leaders and decision-makers across the research enterprise. The role requires the ability to work independently, synthesize data from multiple sources, identify patterns and opportunities, and support strategic and operational decisions across the university.

Business Intelligence Analyst
Developing Track (P2): Salary Range: $62,000 to $77,000; or
Career Track (P3): Salary Range: $80,000 to $95,000
This role will primarily be responsible for analyzing external data relevant to the university's research enterprise, including but not limited to bibliometric, benchmarking, research impact, faculty productivity, tech transfer, and research expenditure data. Key sources may include Dimensions.ai, IRIS, Academic Analytics, SciVal, AUTM, the NSF HERD Survey, and other publicly available and purchased datasets.
The successful candidate will support the development of reports, dashboards, and analyses that help research administration leadership understand institutional performance, benchmark against peer institutions, and identify trends and opportunities. This role requires strong analytical and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work with structured and semi-structured data from multiple external sources.
At the P2 level, the analyst will perform professional work of increasing complexity under guidance, with opportunities to build technical skills. At the P3 level, the analyst will be expected to work more independently, manage moderately complex projects, and contribute to the development of reporting approaches and analytic recommendations.
Minimum Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).
Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels:
Business Intelligence Analyst, II: Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience.
Business Intelligence Analyst, III: Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 6 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 4 years of directly related work experience.
Business Intelligence Analyst, IV: Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 8 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 6 years of directly related work experience.
Preferences
Business Intelligence Analyst, P4 or P3 (Senior)
Preferences:
- Advanced proficiency in data visualization tools, preferably Tableau, including dashboard design and data storytelling best practices
- Advanced SQL skills and experience querying complex relational datasets -
- Demonstrated experience cleaning, joining, manipulating, and analyzing large and complex datasets from multiple sources
- Experience translating stakeholder questions into analytic approaches, reports, dashboards, and recommendations
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to present complex findings to technical and non-technical audiences
- Experience defining KPIs, metrics, or performance indicators
- Experience with Python and/or R for data analysis
- Experience consulting with senior leaders or executive stakeholders
- Experience working within higher education (research administration preferred), government, or other complex institutional data environments
- Experience mentoring, coaching, or guiding other analysts
Business Intelligence Analyst, P3 or P2
Preferences:
- Experience with data visualization tools, preferably Tableau
- Experience writing SQL queries and working with structured datasets
- Experience querying, cleaning, manipulating, and analyzing data from multiple sources
- Demonstrated aptitude for learning new data tools and subject matter quickly
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
- Experience with external benchmarking, bibliometric, or higher education datasets
- Experience with Python and/or R is helpful but not required
