The University of Utah College of Social Work invites applications for a 12-month Career-Line faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor (Lecturer) with administrative and teaching responsibilities in the BSW and MSW programs. The candidate selected for the position will serve as the Director of Online Programs and Lecturer for courses in the BSW and MSW programs. This is a non-tenure track faculty position within the University's Career-Line Faculty structure, with a renewable contract.
The Director of Online Programs has administrative oversight of online programs in the College of Social Work. The Director, Online Program works closely with the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, BSW and MSW Program Directors, Associate Director Education, instructional design staff, and faculty/instructors, respectively. As with all administrative positions, the Director of Online Programs serves at the discretion of the Dean.
The University of Utah and College of Social Work value candidates who have experience working in settings with students from various backgrounds and possess a strong commitment to improving access to higher education for historically underrepresented students.
Preference will be given to successful candidates who can be present on the University of Utah's Salt Lake City campus. However, consideration will also be given to successful candidates who would reside and work remotely unless otherwise notified. A successful candidate hired into this position and located remotely will be responsible for providing their own work space, telephone, printing, networking and/or internet capabilities at the telecommute location and agree to the terms of the University of Utah campus and Health Academics faculty code and other relevant agreements.

Required Qualifications
Applicants must have earned an MSW degree from a CSWE accredited program; a Doctorate (Ph.D. or DSW) in Social Work is preferred. Applicants must have a history of demonstrated administrative experience and leadership in higher education; online curriculum design and course development experience in social work courses; online teaching experience of social work courses; certification in online teaching is preferred but not required. Applicants must have a minimum of two years of post-MSW social work practice.
Administration and Leadership Responsibilities
  • Administrative oversight for online programs in the College of Social Work
  • Support processes and products to ensure CSWE accreditation standards are met
  • Assist in the development and management of budgets for online programs
  • Work with University Connected Learning (UCL) and faculty experts to establish MOUs for support in developing/revising/maintaining online programs
  • Initiate, plan, develop, and implement online programming that enhances the learning environment for students and the professional development of online faculty
  • Help ensure critical information is communicated between students, staff, faculty, and administrators in the College of Social Work
  • Represent the online programs at College of Social Work leadership meetings
  • Contribute to the strategic planning of the online programs in the College of Social Work
  • Other duties as assigned


Curriculum Oversight and Integrity
  • Manage and oversee the curriculum of online programs in collaboration with MSW and BSW program directors:
  • Ensure implementation of curriculum and congruency between online and grounded courses and curriculum, aligning learning objectives, assessments, and content.
  • Collaborate with curricular chairs to ensure curriculum efforts and implementation are in accordance with CSWE standards.
  • Participate in a team approach to course developments alongside faculty experts and instructional designers.
  • Review online courses for quality assurance and manage online course revisions, updates, and corrections.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of online educational programming in the College of Social Work.


Staff and Faculty Oversight and Success
  • Plan, prepare, and facilitate meetings to provide programmatic oversight and support to online staff and faculty.
  • Ensure adequate coverage for course offerings-work collaboratively with Associate Deans, program directors, and college staff in recruiting individuals to teach in the online programs, reviewing applications, interviewing and selecting candidates to teach in the programs, and assigning faculty to courses.
  • Review faculty teaching evaluations and ensure feedback as needed with program directors and Associate Deans.
  • Assist faculty in attending to and resolving online course concerns.
  • Assist in the provision of instructional support and training for faculty.


Student Success
  • Provide support to online students as needed in collaboration with advising, student success, and program directors.
  • Lead and/or participate in online student orientations.
  • Support student recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Work collaboratively with program directors and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs to communicate, manage, document, and resolve student issues.
  • Stay apprised of College of Social Work program policies and ensure availability of information to students through current student handbooks.


Teaching and Service Responsibilities
  • Teach online courses during fall, spring and summer semester (reduced teaching load based upon administrative FTE)
  • Proactively engage with and support the success of online students
  • Ensure the quality of online teaching by engaging in ongoing professional development opportunities
  • Support curriculum development as needed for online courses
  • Participate in and work collaboratively to complete assigned duties in College of Social Work committees including admissions and advisory committees.
  • Create and maintain cooperative, collaborative, and effective working relationships with administrators, faculty members, and staff in the delivery of online courses and programs
