Anticipated Hiring Range: $40 hourly

Department Summary
East Campus Housing supports three residential communities serving CSU Monterey Bay students and families. The department is responsible for maintaining safe, functional, and well-maintained living environments that support student success and community wellbeing.

Position Summary
The Journeyman Electrician performs skilled electrical work in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems and equipment within East Campus residential housing facilities. This position supports safe, reliable, and code-compliant operations across staff and student housing communities and responds to routine service requests, preventative maintenance needs, and emergency repairs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems including panels, breakers, wiring, lighting, outlets, fixtures, and related components.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues in occupied residential units, including power outages, tripped breakers, faulty outlets, and lighting failures.
  • Perform preventative maintenance to ensure safety, reliability, and compliance of interior and exterior electrical systems.
  • Install and service lighting systems, ceiling fans, GFCI/AFCI devices, dimmers, occupancy sensors, and low-voltage systems.
  • Interpret blueprints, schematics, and electrical diagrams to complete repairs and upgrades.
  • Ensure all work complies with applicable local, state, and federal electrical codes in coordination with campus inspection staff.
  • Support unit turns by inspecting and repairing electrical components during vacancy preparation.
  • Assist with electrical upgrades, remodels, and energy-efficiency improvements in occupied and vacant units.
  • Maintain accurate work order documentation and records of completed repairs.
  • Respond promptly to service calls and emergency maintenance needs, coordinating with maintenance staff and contractors as required.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in residential and/or commercial electrical work.
  • Valid Journeyman Electrician license for the State of California.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in apartment communities, HOAs, or property management environments.
  • Knowledge of California Electrical Code and local municipal amendments.
  • Strong customer service experience in occupied residential settings.

  • This position may require occasional evenings and/or weekend work.
  • Valid Journeyman Electrician license for the State of California is required.
  • This position is designated as a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and must comply with applicable CSU Executive Orders, including Title IX reporting requirements.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check in accordance with the California Fair Chance Act.
