Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs technical procedures under supervision by applying standard scientific techniques and analytical principles.
- Supervises the care of research mice; collect animal tissues and specimens for laboratory analysis. Performs dissections and minor animal surgery.
- Assists senior laboratory personnel with carrying out experimental procedures and recommend modifications as needed.
- Performs specialized tests and procedures using complex equipment.
- Procures/orders supplies and materials needed to conduct research
- Makes statistical calculations, analyzes data, and prepares reports summarizing results.
- Conducts literature reviews to obtain abstracts and information to be utilized in research.
Nearly Continuously: Laboratory environment.
Often: Exposure to animals. Infectious disease, oils (there is air or skin exposure to oils or other cutting fluids), hazards (includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals).
Physical Requirements and Level of Frequency
Nearly Continuously: Hearing, listening, talking.
Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing, pipetting), walking, standing, sitting.
Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead.
Minimum Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).
Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels:
Research Technician, I: Requires little to no related experience.
