Position Announcement

We invite qualified candidates to apply for a full-time Dental Hygiene faculty position. This role includes teaching clinical, lab, and didactic courses; supporting curriculum development and accreditation efforts; and contributing to student success, faculty mentoring, and service to the department and university. Applicants must hold a master's degree, have at least five years of clinical experience, and be eligible for Utah Dental Hygiene licensure with anesthesia certification.

Summary of Responsibilities


  • Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms, online, and laboratories, through demonstration, discussion, visual aids, individualized instruction, lectures, and other appropriate methods for educational delivery.
  • Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught. Prepares instructional materials. Evaluates student performance using appropriate testing and grading procedures.
  • Engages in scholarly activities, including applied research, and produces scholarly/creative work consistent with disciplinary specialization and the academic goals of the department.
  • Serves the department, college, and university by attending departmental meetings, working on committees, and accepting other service appointments.


Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications


  • Graduation from a regionally accredited, CODA-accredited dental hygiene program and a Master's degree in Dental Hygiene or a closely related field (e.g., Public Health, Education, Health Sciences).
  • Minimum of six months post-secondary teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least three years of related teaching, training, and/or industry experience.
  • Evidence of scholarly research.
Licenses or Certifications
  • Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) in the state of Utah (current); Current CPR certification for Healthcare providers.
  • Current certification in local anesthesia and nitrous oxide sedation.


Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Knowledge

  • Teaching experience or expertise in at least three of the following areas is desirable: dental anatomy; oral pathology; dental materials; local anesthesia; radiography; oral health education/preventive counseling; patient management; special needs; community dental health; patient care; practice management; ethics; and law.
  • Knowledge of subject matter, trends, and course content pertinent to the Dental Hygiene program.
  • Knowledge of online teaching environments, such as Canvas or other course management systems.
Skills
  • Interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Curriculum development skills.
  • Soft skills in maintaining professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
  • Proficient in executing scholarly activities and contributing to service endeavors, with a teaching focus that complements the Dental Hygiene program
  • Specific interest in teaching introductory courses, potentially involving collaboration with Concurrent Enrollment instructors.
  • Teaching pedagogy in a variety of delivery formats
Abilities
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, agency administrators, and community practitioners from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and initiative in solving problems.

  • Ability to plan measurable objectives, prepare instructional materials, and follow an approved curriculum.
  • Ability to assess student work and maintain and submit accurate and current plans, reports, and records involving student accountability, attendance, and performance.
