Job Summary
The Housing Facilities Services Department with the University of Colorado, Boulder is accepting applications for an Electrician! This position performs a variety of electrical tasks in student residence halls, apartment complexes, and commercial building environments. These tasks include maintaining and repairing electrical systems, handling interior and exterior wiring, circuits, outlets, switches, lighting fixtures and pole lights to ensure safe and efficient functionality across campus. This position works independently and has a broad range of decision-making authority. The Division of Student Life consists of 30 departments that provide student support and services dedicated to helping students become successful, curious, competent individuals during their time at CU Boulder.
The work in Student Life supports all factors of the student experience, no matter what department a staff member may work in. This includes where students live, eat, make friends, build professional skills and find help if they need it. Many departments provide involvement opportunities, educational resources and support services to help students find their community and build lifelong skills. Student Life also has shared services departments that support the work and staff of our student-facing areas, including areas like center for assessment, insight and research, business services, finance, employee experience, communication and marketing and technology solutions.

Housing Facilities Services (HFS) is a comprehensive facility management operation that provides around-the-clock support to over 10,000 residents and 20,000 conference guests annually. Services include maintenance, repair, renovation, project management, capital construction, housekeeping and grounds-keeping operations. HFS has approximately 190 full-time employees and approximately 80 part-time and student staff, who all strive to give residents the best living experience possible.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
General Electrical Service
- Change light fixtures, replace tombstones and ballasts, repair or replace emergency exit lighting, wall switches, outlets, and motion sensors
- Install new or replace damaged conduits as well as move, add, and ground electrical outlets
- Replace range hoods and exhaust fans and repair, replace, or install electric hand dryers
- Troubleshoot localized power outages and repair inoperable electrical devices
- Reset and replace both breakers and switches as well as service exterior lighting and pole lights.
- Inspect and maintain main/sub panels and map circuits
- Conduct load studies, test lights, switches, motion sensors, and outlets
- Maintain automated lighting systems
- Follow safe electricity practices which includes following proper lockout/tagout procedures and wearing prescribed personal protective equipment
- Follow ladder safety procedures, lift safety procedures, and confined space safety procedures
- Exercise caution during high-heat or winter weather events
- Follow toolbox talk safety communication and complete required safety trainings
- Serve as a team member for controlled maintenance and capital projects
- Participate in various project phases to include scope development, schematic design, pre-construction, construction, and punch list
- Review and provide feedback on drawings, submittals, and other project documentation
- Serve as a subject matter expert from the electrical trade perspective
- Support fire alarm systems, snow removal, attend meetings, work periodic on-call, and complete required continuing education to maintain licensure
What You Should Know
- This position operates University vehicles and requires an active Driver's License in good standing.
What We Can Offer
- The annual salary for this full-time position is $61,812 - $72,000.
- If you have prior state-classified experience in the same class series as this position, your pay may be set at a higher amount per the state Step Pay Program implemented on July 1, 2024.

What We Require
- Current, valid license as a Journeyman Electrician from the Colorado Electrical Board.
What You Will Need
- Solid understanding of electrical code
- Critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Ability to read construction drawings and wiring diagrams.
- Ability to review construction project submittals.
- Interpersonal, teamwork, and customer service skills
