Job Summary:

This is an exciting opportunity to join a human resources team at the University of Colorado. Human Resources Shared Services (HRSS) manages and streamlines human resources functions for participating departments in the School of Medicine on the Anschutz Medical Campus. The Anschutz Medical Campus fosters collaboration among students, researchers, and clinicians in one of the largest academic health centers in the nation. Campus architecture and state-of-the-art technology bridge education and research with two world-class hospitals: University of Colorado Hospital and Children's Hospital Colorado.

University of Colorado Anschutz is seeking applications for a Human Resources Specialist. This full-time University Staff (non-classified) position will serve as a resource to participating basic science and clinical departments and divisions by providing support, guidance, and interpretation of Federal, State, University, and School of Medicine laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures assuring compliance in a variety of human resources areas, which include recruitment, selection and faculty affairs processes. The person in this role will work closely with the Administrators of all participating departments and collaborate with the School of Medicine's Human Resources and Faculty Affairs teams.

The ideal candidate for this position will be an energetic individual who is ready to help create change and be part of a group of professionals dedicated to collaborative approaches, relationship building, and positive outcomes.

Examples of Work Performed:

Recruitment & Talent Acquisition (35%)

Manage day-to-day recruitment activities for student employees, University Staff, and Faculty through the Human Capital Management (HCM) and CU Careers systems.
  • Assist departments in sourcing candidates, reviewing job descriptions and announcements, screening applicants, conducting job analyses, and developing assessment tools in consultation with subject matter experts.
  • Participate in University Staff and Faculty search processes.
  • Coordinate faculty affairs recruitment and selection functions.


Onboarding & Employee Lifecycle Support (35%)
  • Facilitate onboarding for new employees, including collecting required documents, scheduling orientations and training, coordinating physician credentialing and privileging, badging, and key access.
  • Draft offer letters for new hires.
  • Create and process HCM transactions related to compensation, positions, and personnel actions.
  • Support and facilitate transactions such as additional pay, transfers, FTE changes, and promotions.


Compliance, Policy Guidance & Process Improvement (20%)
  • Maintain accurate and timely records to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and University laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the HRSS Manager to develop standard operating procedures and support process improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as a resource on HR policies and procedures.
  • Assist with the preparation and distribution of annual base, salary, and incentive letters for faculty.
  • Perform other duties, tasks, and projects as assigned.


International Employment & Visa Coordination (10%)
  • Serve as a liaison with the International Student and Scholar Services Office to coordinate visa and work authorization processes (J-1, H-1B, O, TN, OPT, Permanent Resident applications) for Faculty, Postdoctoral Fellows, Research Associates, and students.



Work Location:

Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus in a shared office environment and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Entry Level:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Public Administration, Healthcare Administration, Communications, or related field from an accredited college or university.


Intermediate Level:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Public Administration, Healthcare Administration, Communications, or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • One (1) year of experience performing human resources functions.


A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in an academic medical center.
  • Experience working with PeopleSoft Human Capital Management, CU Careers, and/or Zendesk.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong independent judgment and critical thinking skills.
  • Self-directed.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with people from all levels within an organization.
  • Ability to independently establish work priorities, follow through, and meet established deadlines.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality while working with sensitive information.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to actively listen and share relevant information, anticipate problems, and establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Knowledge of professional standards, concepts, and practices related to human resources.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and evaluate a broad range of laws, rules, and regulations in order to exercise good judgment in applying them to human resources challenges.

Knowledge of applicable Federal and State laws and regulations.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as:
  • Entry Level: $43,662 to $55,538
  • Intermediate Level: $47,515 to $60,439


The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
