Job Summary:
We are currently seeking skilled and team-oriented applicants for the following position: Program Specialist 2 - Area Health Education Center (AHEC) - Project (this position is funded through 06/30/2027).
AHEC is an outreach program designed to attract and encourage youth and undergraduates to pursue a career in health and to subsequently consider becoming a health practitioner in a rural area. This position will perform work using knowledge and experience specific to the AHEC program and exercise independent judgment in interpreting and applying AHEC rules and regulations. This position will act as a liaison and provide consultation to program participants and outside entities regarding functions of programs. Position will interpret, review, and apply program specific policies and procedures. They will access program needs, develop course of action to carry out program activities.
Under general supervision, the Program Specialist 2 oversees day-to-day program operations and resolves problems with assigned scope of authority. This position will develop plan for carrying out program activities as well as organize, direct, and coordinate functions, components and processes related to AHEC. The position reports to and works closely with the Director.

The salary for this position is $45,912 (minimum) up to $52,896. Where the hired candidate will begin within this range is dependent on qualifications, education, experience, and skills. Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least one (1) year of full-time work experience assisting in program execution
- Valid Washington State Drivers License and private automotive insurance (prior to hire)
- Experience working with students in K-12 grades
- Experience working with community-based organizations and industry partners
- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to build and maintain good working relationships with outside organizations
- Strong computer skills using a variety of applications (Word, Excel, data systems, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to apply a responsive and flexible approach that is supportive of the needs including universal access of our students, faculty, staff and the public
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two (2) or more years college coursework, and/or a Bachelors degree
- Experience with student recruitment or other types of student outreach activities
- Experience with data collection, compiling data, preparing and disseminating reports

Job Duties:
The Program Specialist 2 reports to and works closely with the Director, to coordinate and fulfill functions, components and processes related to AHEC. Examples of specific AHEC activities, where the Program Specialist 2 will have responsibility for coordinating, supporting and/or fulfilling assigned functions include:
- Provide information and technical assistance to program participants, staff, and outside agencies regarding program content, policies, and activities and recommends alternative courses of action; promotes the program with outside organizations and resources.
- Attends meetings and/or conferences as the program representative; develops and makes public presentations on programs such as AHEC Scholars.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of a website relating to health careers, scholarships, and educational resources.
- Meets regularly with outside entities regarding the implementation of program policies; participates in establishing program standards, identifying areas for program development.
- Monitors program activities in relation to program goals.
- Prepares promotional materials and provides certifications to program participants including AHEC Scholars.
- Directs work and/or coordinates services of program volunteers.
- Contribute to budget review and monitoring expenditures.
- Supports faculty and contractual personnel with travel arrangements.
- Update and create new content for the program website including creating form submission for programs and events.
- Creates and distributes program surveys.
- Contribute to the development of a strategic plan.
- Ensure the timeliness and accuracy of reports required for the grant.
- Compile assessment data collected for various reports.
Conditions of Employment:
This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value, as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.

This position is covered by the Washington Federation of State Employees Collective Bargaining Agreement:
After starting employment, employees will complete the required training via Canvas. Workplace Belonging training will be available on December 1, 2025 and should be completed by March 31, 2026.
