Fire Watch Crew

Job Summary

Fire Watch Crew is responsible for patrolling on foot through building rooms to check for fire symptoms and visible fires within the spaces while the fire sprinkler system is out of service for repair. Walks a specific routine and checks in at multiple check points throughout the building using a digital checkpoint tracking software to document the route through the building on timed intervals.

Responsibilities
Fire Watch Crew will patrol on foot the building looking for smoke, flames, sparks, and any signs of an actual or impending fire. Crew must stay alert and active while inspecting rooms and spaces throughout the building. A software system will be used by crew members to scan QR codes at checkpoints throughout the building to timestamp and record the crew's movement throughout the building. Crew will refer to the site safety plan provided during training to notify emergency services if there is an active fire within the building during patrol. May use a fire extinguisher to put out fires. Must be able to walk and stand for long periods of time. The use of personal electronic devices, including headphones, earbuds, or cell phones, for entertainment (e.g., listening to music, podcasts, watching videos, personal calls/texts) is strictly prohibited while on Fire Watch duty. The Fire Watch must maintain 100% auditory and visual awareness of the hot work area and surrounding environment at all times.

Minimum Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).
Facilities Security Specialist, III: Requires 3+ years of related experience.

Preferences
Fire extinguisher training.

Previous fire watch experience preferred.

Strong ability to remain calm and focused under pressure during an emergency.

Experience in writing routine reports and maintaining detailed logbooks of observations and patrols.

Must be physically capable of performing duties, including standing/patrolling for extended periods and carrying/operating a fire extinguisher.

Ability to read and understand safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.

The International Fire Code requires that all Fire Watch personnel are at least 21 years old.
