Enterprise Applications Programmer/Analyst

SUNY Empire is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Enterprise Applications Programmer/Analyst to join our Software Solutions group. This position will provide programming expertise to support and enhance our enterprise systems, which include Banner SIS, Brightspace D2L, system integrations, iPaaS, Banner workflow development, Ellucian Experience, and Banner forms.

The Enterprise Applications Programmer/Analyst will work collaboratively with the programming team to design, develop, and maintain custom Banner applications and services, ensuring reliable, secure, and user-friendly solutions that meet institutional needs.

Primary responsibilities include:
  • Provide programming, integration, and development support for enterprise systems, including Banner SIS, Brightspace D2L, and related applications.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance custom Banner applications, workflows, and forms.
  • Design and implement system integrations through APIs, RESTful services, and iPaaS platforms.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and document requirements, create technical specifications, and deliver solutions aligned with institutional goals.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve level 2 technical issues, ensuring continuity of service.
  • Participate in all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), including documentation, debugging, and testing.
  • Contribute to team knowledge sharing, mentoring, and technical leadership where appropriate.
  • Communicate complex technical issues in a clear and accessible manner to non-technical stakeholders.


Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university and a minimum of 2 years' applicable programming experience; OR Associate's degree and a minimum of 4 years' applicable programming experience.
  • Experience building and utilizing API integrations and RESTful web services.
  • Hands-on experience administering enterprise systems such as Banner, Argos, Laserfiche, or comparable platforms.
  • Experience in writing queries and programs in Oracle SQL/SQL environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for both application and system-level issues.
  • Experience in report writing and data analysis (Argos or similar reporting tools).
  • Experience with system patching and change management practices.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with SQL, PL/SQL, XML, PHP and/or Python.
  • Knowledge of object-oriented programming (OOP).
  • Familiarity with web development tools such as JavaScript, jQuery, CSS, and HTML.
  • Prior experience in higher education with academic administrative applications.
  • Proven ability to analyze and troubleshoot complex, cross-team applications and integrations.
  • Knowledge and experience with UX/UI design.
  • Understanding of accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.1.

Special Information:
  • Occasional travel may be required to fulfill department and university-wide commitments.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. VISA sponsorship is not available for this position.
