Primary Purpose of Organization Unit:
Under the supervision of the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Facilities, Facilities Management comprises of two departments - Facilities Operations; and Facilities Planning and Construction. The primary mission is delivering required services, financial oversight, and providing a liaison with appropriate Federal, State, and local agencies on matters related to planning, constructing, operating and maintaining the physical campus environment. Facilities Management strives to provide a safe, clean, accessible, and attractive environment which enhances the abilities of academic and administrative departments to provide a personalized education experience.

Primary Purpose of Position:
This position is an essential position within the Facilities Operations and Maintenance Department. The primary purpose of this position is to provide irrigation system management for the entire campus, including roadway medians and athletic fields. Assist in the implementation of a turf care program for proper turf care that ensures a healthy and thriving turf. Assist in implementing strategies for soil testing, proper irrigation. Utilize industry experts and professional associations as it pertains to irrigation systems. Work is guided by a daily schedule for general assignments. Work is performed subject to close review and inspection by the Grounds Manager. Duties shall include physically strenuous activities such as operating heavy equipment, and delivering large quantities of grounds related supplies and equipment. Work is routine and repetitive in nature and will require strenuous physical exertion.

Job Description:
Position is responsible for the care of campus irrigation systems for campus, athletic fields, satellite locations, intramural field, and roadway medians. Troubleshooting and maintenance of simple to moderately complex system issues. The maintenance and operation includes but is not limited to maintaining a network of campus grounds irrigation clock systems that serve deep well systems and associated equipment such as pump, motor, pressurized tanks, controls, time clocks, various electrically operated solenoid valves, manual valves, a variety of sprinkler head styles that are zone controlled. Position is responsible for the inventory of existing systems. Responsible for reporting all inventory needs to Grounds Manager to ensure adequate stock is always on hand. Position is responsible for creating and maintaining all as-builts of existing systems. Position will assist Grounds Manager in irrigation system reviews via Facilities Planning, Design & Construction for future projects as well as the creation of campus standards. Position will assist Grounds Manager with creating project scopes for future expansions and major repairs of existing systems and the installation of new systems when necessary. Position will assist in the location of system heads and piping with regard to utility locates and projects that involve digging on campus. Position shall lead the effort in both start up of irrigation systems for the growing season as well as winterizing systems for winter months. Position is responsible to ensure that the systems are operated in such manner that they coincide with various weekly campus events Sunday through Saturday both daytime and evening hours. Work performed is subject to close review and inspection and all concerns and issues are to be reported to the Grounds Manager.

Assist in planning of projects for all areas to achieve the maintenance standards and long-range goals. Assist in implementing turf care program for proper turf care that ensures a healthy and thriving turf. Assist in implementing strategies for soil testing, proper nutrients and irrigation. Adhere to best practices provided by industry experts and professional associations as it pertains to turf. Work is guided by a daily schedule for general assignments as directed and in cooperation by Grounds Manager. Work performed is subject to close review and inspection and all concerns and issues are to be reported the Grounds Manager.

Position is responsible for campus appearance. This includes but is not limited to using mowers, trimmers, edgers, backpack blowers, sprayers and spreaders as well as other grounds related equipment. Responsible for reporting any and all issues with equipment or needed repairs and/or replacement to Grounds Manager. Campus trash police duty every morning prior to performing primary responsibilities on both campus and athletic fields.

All other duties assigned by direct supervisor and Facilities Management Leadership.

This position is Mandatory Personnel. Employees whose presence has been determined to be mandatory to University operations during certain types of adverse weather or emergency events.

Management Preference:
Five to seven years of directly related experience.

Lic or Certifications Required by Statute or Regulation: Valid Driver's License
NC Pesticide License
