Position Announcement
The Social & Behavioral Science Department, within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Utah Valley University, has an outstanding tenure-track opportunity for a teachingfocused individual with expertise in family resource management, human development, and/or family science to become an essential part of our growing faculty in the Fall of 2026. The Family Science faculty is composed of energetic, collaborative academics who actively mentor our 450 undergraduate majors in the context of their scholarly activities. The Family Science Program also provides support to the UVU Stronger Families Project and the Marriage and Family Therapy master's degree program. This is a tenure track position and will include teaching four courses per fall and spring semester; summer teaching may also be available for additional pay. The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate a commitment to ethical and professional behavior, anti-oppressive practice, teaching excellence, teaching diverse learners, and effective pedagogical practices.
Summary of Responsibilities
- Teaching: Position requires an assigned teaching load of 24 credit hours during the academic year (approximately 12 credit hours each semester - typically a 4/4 load). This is a 9-month appointment with potential options for summer teaching for additional pay.
- Research: Develops an active research agenda, which involves students and results in presentation and publication.
- Serves on committees and other opportunities for the program, department, college, university, and the greater community.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
- Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with a doctoral degree in a related field to the coursework being taught. Special considerations will be granted to individuals with degrees in Human Development, Family Studies/Science, Marriage (Couple) and Family Therapy, and Family and Consumer Science.
- Demonstration of successful teaching employing effective use of engaged pedagogy at the college or university level.
- Ability to teach two or more of the following course topics: Family Financial and Resource Management, Lifespan/Human Development, Family Policy, Family Dynamics and Systems, Ethics for Family Interventions, or other related Family Science courses.
- Proficiency or ability to develop proficiency in teaching hybrid or online courses.
- An established history of excellence in teaching
- Conducting research with undergraduate students
- Participating in the scholarship of teaching and learning
- Working collaboratively with other faculty both within and across departments
- Candidates who do not have these qualifications should demonstrate their potential for obtaining some of these qualifications within their first few years as a pre-tenured faculty member

- Excellence in teaching as demonstrated through effective instructional strategies and techniques in the classroom.
- A trajectory of meaningful scholarly engagement, preferably evidenced by publications, presentations, and the promise of future scholarly productivity.
- Effective interpersonal, problem-solving and decision-making skills, with a willingness to serve on committees and demonstrate high levels of collegiality within the program and department.
- Evidence of a commitment to service to the University, including departmental meetings and committee work. Service responsibilities may include support of the UVU Stronger Families Project and/or Marriage and Family Therapy master's degree
- Ability to manage, motivate, and evaluate students.
- Ability to communicate effectively and consistently orally and electronically with students and colleagues.
