Position Announcement

The Department of History and Political Science at Utah Valley University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship in U.S. history (1877 to the present) beginning in Fall 2026. The position is a nine-month appointment with a required 4/4 teaching load. The successful candidate will teach lower-division surveys in Modern U.S. history, an upper-division course in Utah history, and courses in their areas of specialization. Preference will go to candidates with a specialization in public or digital history. Candidates must have experience teaching in a college or university setting and show evidence of commitment to engaged teaching, active scholarship, and service. Application deadline is November 30, 2025. The application must include a cover letter, CV, graduate transcript, writing sample, and teaching statement. PhD in History must be completed by the date of appointment. The search committee expects to conduct first-round interviews online in January.

Summary of Responsibilities


  • Teach 4-4 course load (or service/administrative equivalency) of lower and upper division undergraduate classes, including surveys, areas of specialization, and department service courses.
  • Maintains and submits accurate and current reports and records involving student accountability, attendance, performance, and follow-up. Establishes and maintains office hours. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Maintains currency in fields of expertise/research/pedagogy. Assists department chair, faculty, and staff in maintaining an effective program, including advisement and recruitment of students, curriculum development, program changes, etc. Serves on committees and attends meetings as assigned. Conducts self in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrable teaching experience in an environment that features a student body with different abilities and educational backgrounds. Knowledge of and demonstrated use of engaged teaching techniques. Skilled in effective oral and written communication, including the ability to communicate with different audiences
