Job Description:
The Program Manager provides programmatic support and financial management for the RNA COBRE: Center for RNA Biology in Health and Disease (CRBHD). This position coordinates the daily activities of the Center, directs program management of the goals of the Center, administers the application processes and post-award management for the Junior Faculty Research Project Leaders (RPL) and Pilot Project Program (PPP), tracks the progress of the Junior Faculty Project Leaders and the mentoring activities of Senior Faculty associated with each research project, and oversees the administration of the RNome Core facility. This position maintains the Center data required by the guidelines of the COBRE mechanism, documents progress of individuals involved in the program, prepares annual reports of this progress, assists with program integration and website maintenance, monitors and manages budgets, and ensures compliance with all the federal grant criteria.
The RNA COBRE: Center for RNA Biology in Health and Disease was started in September 2025 with funding provided by a Center for Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) Institutional Development Award (IDeA) grant P20GM156712 provided by the National Institute of General Medical Science. The Center's goals are to provide support and mentorship to junior investigators spanning experimental and computational RNA research; to build infrastructure to support research in RNA biology in health and disease; to build an RNome Core that will increase the ability of academic researchers to incorporate cutting edge RNA techniques; to educate the scientific community of Rhode Island; and to build a cohort of researchers with complementary backgrounds in biophysics, chemistry, computational biology, and infectious disease.
This is a fixed term position with a current end date of 8/31/2030, which may be extended based upon available funding.
Job Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- Required: Bachelor's degree with 3-5 years' experience in grant and administrative program coordination, preferably in an academic research environment
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 1-2 years of research management experience with NIH funding is preferred
- Experience with NIH eRA commons and Brown systems (Workday, Huron, UFunds) is advantageous

- Excellent financial analytical ability
- Willingness and interest in assuming increasing levels of responsibilities, networking, leadership, and training opportunities
- Highly proficient in Excel applications (data manipulations); MS Excel and Google Docs preferred
- Excellent communication skills (both oral and written) to elicit and disperse information; to present information (including data) and communications in a clear and concise manner
- Strong organizational, administrative, time management and critical thinking skills
- Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, multi-faceted work environment
- Flexible, service-oriented and resourceful
- Ability to organize and prioritize workload in a multi-tasking environment while maintaining careful attention to detail
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
