Position Description

Information Technology Services (IT Services) at Seattle University provides high-touch, high-quality customer service to a vibrant and diverse community of faculty, staff, and students. We are seeking a collaborative, curious Systems Engineer 1 with a passion for learning, an innovative spirit, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive environment where all can thrive. This role supports the university's mission by helping to build and maintain a reliable, secure, and user-friendly endpoint and application ecosystem. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Assist with configuring and maintaining our Microsoft Intune and Jamf environments to support endpoint management, device enrollment, application deployment, and security policy enforcement on various platforms including Windows, MacOS, iOS, and Android.
  • Support our Apporto Virtual Desktop instances to deliver course-specific applications for our students and faculty.
  • Collaborate with other team members to maintain and support Microsoft 365 services, including Intune, Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, Teams Phone, and other associated applications.
  • Support the provisioning and deprovisioning of end user accounts and related licensing in partnership with our IAM team.
  • Provide delivery support for production software and services on physical and virtualized endpoints.
  • Provide excellent and empathetic customer service to our students, faculty, and staff.
  • Maintain, upgrade, monitor, and support existing applications and infrastructure to ensure operational stability and compliance.
  • Actively participate with team(s) in root cause analysis, debugging, support review, post-incident analysis, and corrective action planning before, during, and after security incidents and service interruptions.
  • Open and manage problem tickets with vendors, as necessary or appropriate, to achieve goals or bring problems to resolution.
  • Create and maintain documentation related to system configurations, processes, and procedures to assist with ticket triage for our Service Desk team and promote end user self-service.
  • Support the creation of scripts and tools that drive automation and enable product teams and end users to move towards self-service.
  • Actively engage in team meetings and campus events as part of collaborating with colleagues and understanding the experience of those we serve.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • A combination of relevant education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the position on such as those listed above.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues with all levels of end users.
  • Some capability with scripting languages such as PowerShell or Bash.
  • Demonstrated customer service orientation and a commitment to providing timely and excellent forward-facing service.
  • A self-starter with attention to detail, flexibility, and the ability to adhere to project specifications and timelines.
  • Desire to learn and grow with an inquisitive and positive nature as a part of a continuous learning environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with basic networking and firewall rules.
  • Familiarity with SSO and account provisioning/deprovisioning.
  • Familiarity with security hardening best practices.
  • Experience working in a ticketing/work triage system.
  • Experience working in higher education or similar industry or organization.
  • Experience with process improvement methods and tools.

Compensation at a Glance

Salary Range: $87,000 - $92,000

Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.

Your total compensation goes beyond the number on your paycheck. Seattle University provides generous leave, health plans, and retirement contributions that add to your total compensation package.

Hybrid Eligible

This position may be eligible for a hybrid schedule after successful completion of an introductory work period of 3-6 months. This may mean that a hybrid eligible role will begin on-campus initially and then will transition to hybrid format following onboarding and training. Flexible work plans are subject to periodic review and may be changed or terminated at any time for any reason at the university's discretion.
