Benefits Coordinator

Empire State University currently seeks a Benefits Coordinator in the Office of Human Resources located in Saratoga Springs, NY. The Benefits Coordinator acts as the liaison between the employee and the health and retirement programs. In this role, the Benefits Coordinator is responsible for processing benefit related transactions (including enrollments, changes, retirements, etc.) and must be highly organized with great attention to detail while ensuring strict adherence to Department of Civil Service, SUNY and New York State plan protocols for processing.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Serve as primary contact for initial benefit related inquiries providing high level customer service to assist employees with benefit related questions and issues.
  • Process health insurance transactions and retirement plan enrollments.
  • Conduct new employee orientation and initiate follow up to ensure timely receipt of enrollment forms.
  • Assist in adjunct faculty benefit administration.
  • Assist in leave administration.
  • Assist with processing tuition reimbursements.
  • Process and approve retirement enrollments into the retirement plan and payroll systems.
  • Conduct meetings with employees considering or pending retirement.
  • Assist in time and attendance administration including responding to employee inquiries and troubleshooting issues.
  • Assist in retirement reporting, benefits reporting, and auditing.
  • Supporting other Human Resources functions as needed including recruitment, training, and performance management support.


Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and at least 2 years' Human Resources and/or Employee Benefits administration experience; OR a minimum of 5 years' benefits administration experience.
  • Strong customer service, writing, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret and explain complex information.
  • Proficient in computer applications and advanced spreadsheet management.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft applications.
  • Strong attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Health-care Administration, or a closely related field.
  • Prior experience effectively working in a high-volume benefits area conducting all facets of benefits administration.
  • Public sector experience, specifically public sector retirement and benefits.

Special Information:
  • This position is located in Saratoga Springs, NY.
  • Occasional travel may be required to fulfill department and university-wide commitments.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. VISA sponsorship is not available for this position.


Additional Information:
Rank/Salary: Management/Confidential / $55,000-$60,000, dependent on experience and qualifications.
