The Occupational Health and Safety Specialist position is primarily based on the Charles River Campus while remaining flexible in assignments across all areas and departments served by EHS. The specific duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to; conducting health and safety inspections and assessments, fire safety inspections, fire drills, worker health and safety training, construction safety assessments and safety plan development, and maintaining associated records. The Opportunity Join a face paced work environment providing service across all university and hospital operations. Work collaboratively with research, academic, healthcare and service departments at a large research institution, medical school, and teaching hospital. Be part of a diverse EHS team with over 500 years of combined experience across all EHS disciplines. Collaboratively work with other departments for BUs sustainability efforts relating to waste minimization. Job Responsibilities Conduct health and safety inspections in dorms and academic areas Conduct fire drills to prepare staff and identify opportunities for improvement Prepare facilities for regulatory and accreditation inspections Develop and approve construction safety plans Conduct construction safety audits Maintain regulatory compliance with local, state and federal health and safety standards and regulations including maintaining records Conduct health and safety training Assist in the maintenance of health and safety equipment and monitoring equipment Conduct incident investigations and develop recommendations to prevent recurrence Prepare reports and corrective action plans from safety assessments and inspections Provide required reporting to director and safety officer as requested Collaborate with other EHS staff to develop and improve safety training programs
Required Skills
B.A./B.S. in a related field, Basic knowledge of federal, state and local safety regulations and OSHA standards, At least one year of fire safety and/or occupational safety experience and training, preferably in an academic or healthcare setting Number of years and type of experience may substitute for education Specific health and safety experience or certificates in related field or professional certifications preferred Have knowledge of federal, state and local safety regulations and OSHA standards Valid driver's license Knowledge of federal, state and local safety regulations and OSHA standards Must have or obtain the 24 or 40-hour OSHA hazardous waste operations and emergency response training This position requires successful completion of a pre-placement physical Working knowledge of safety information management systems.
