Position Overview: The Intensive Outpatient Clinic (IOC) at University of Utah Health is seeking a mission-driven primary care physician (M.D. or D.O.) to be an integral part of an interdisciplinary team of medical and behavioral health professionals delivering exceptional patient-centered care for a targeted population of individuals with complex medical and psychosocial needs. Providing comprehensive and integrated care, the IOC aims to improve clinical outcomes and decrease the overall cost of care for the population we serve. In 2023, Governor Cox's One Utah Health Collaborative recognized the IOC has as leader in novel comprehensive care delivery and sustainable financial innovation. The IOC was also featured in Meet Me Where I Am - a short film that premiered in the 2022 Sundance Film Festival - that tells the story of one IOC patient and how this clinic provides unique integrated care.
 
This position provides both primary care services in a University Health clinic or hospital unit and works collaboratively with the medical and behavioral health teams to deliver comprehensive care oriented around treating the bio-psycho-social needs of the IOC patient population. Clinical activities include, but are not limited to: Ambulatory Office Visits with History & Physical Exam review, Telehealth Visits, Supporting Care Coordination, and Medication Management. The ideal candidate will also have a working knowledge of trauma-informed care and substance use disorders. 
 
The IOC exclusively serves a Medicaid population and operates under a value-based care model with the University of Utah Health Plans. This position reports to the IOC Medical Director and will support the IOC patient population and the clinic team located at the University of Utah Population Health Center near Rose Park.

Mandatory and required on campus or health care facilities to support on-site operations. Employees hired into this category will be required to be physically located at 168 North 1950 West, Salt Lake City, UT 84116 if they are healthy and without COVID-19 symptoms.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions

Clinical Provide medical care to a dedicated patient at the direction of the IOC's Medical Director Perform history and physical examinations Order and interpret lab tests, x-rays, imaging studies, and other diagnostics Prepare patients for exams and procedures Perform selected invasive procedures within validated scope Initiate or recommend drug therapies and other treatments per approved protocols Counsel patients and families on health, illness, and health maintenance Collaborate with interdisciplinary team (social workers, medical assistants, case workers, nurses) Supervise 1-2 Advanced Practice Providers (i.e., Nurse Practitioners and/or Physician's Assistants), with oversight covered under malpractice insurance
Administrative & Compliance Duties Participate in administrative duties and training programs Comply with University of Utah policies, Medical Director directives, and professional ethics Maintain complete and accurate documentation of patient care Initiate and maintain required records and legal documents Participate in quality improvement activities Meet qualifications for Medicare, Medicaid, and similar programs Maintain valid Utah medical license and DEA registration Maintain good standing with hospital medical staff Adhere to recognized standards of care and community clinic malpractice coverage requirements Call Coverage Take after-hours phone calls as determined by Medical Director Document call messages per clinical practice requirements

Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications (Required)

Medical (M.D.) or Osteopathic (D.O.) Degree Board certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Internal Medicine/Pediatrics (or within 2 years of employment) Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria. Demonstrated clinical competence and in-depth knowledge of specialty area; and demonstrated leadership, teaching, research and communication skills are required. Qualifications (Preferred) Must hold a valid, unrestricted license to practice medicine in Utah Must maintain good standing with hospital medical staff Must maintain a valid DEA number without suspension or revocation Must meet qualifications for participation in Medicare, Medicaid, and similar programs Must practice medicine consistent with recognized standards of care Must meet qualifications for participation in Community Clinics' malpractice liability coverage Mission-driven, innovative, flexible, and collaborative Interest in mental health and addiction (mastery not required) Comfortable with harm reduction and trauma-informed care models Committed to patient-centered care and reducing inappropriate healthcare utilization This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.
