Summary of Responsibilities
- Teaches 5/5 load of Ethics and Values classes, including Distance Education. Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms, online, and laboratories, through demonstration, discussion, visual aids, individualized instruction, lectures and other appropriate methods or educational delivery. Plans, prepares and follows an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught. Prepares instructional materials. Evaluates student performance using appropriate testing and grading procedures.
- Serves the department, school/college, and university by attending departmental meetings, and accepting other service appointments. Other job-related duties as assigned.
- Establishes or maintains office hours and advises students during these times and other times as needed.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
Graduation from an accredited institution with a terminal, earned degree appropriate to the discipline. Candidates who are ABD will be considered. Applicants must demonstrate knowledge and expertise in current instructional methods, teaching strategies, and relevant disciplinary content.
Preferred Qualifications
A master's degree or higher in philosophy or a closely related field from an accredited institution. College or university-level teaching experience preferred.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Knowledge
- Expertise with philosophical ethics and applied ethics, teaching critical thinking and critical writing.
- Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques in lower division courses.
- Knowledge of student management, motivation, evaluation; evaluation of (peer and self) instruction.
- Demonstrated knowledge of program and curriculum development and evaluation.
- Knowledge of and expertise in current trends in education, engaged learning and service learning, learning technologies (e.g. digital technologies for classroom management and distance education), public presentation, outcomes measurement and grant writing.
- Skills in verbal and written communication.
- Skills in time management and organization.
- Skills in problem solving.
- Skills as an accomplished teacher/performer.
- Skills in assisting counselors and other department heads in maintaining an effective program.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, agency administrators, and community practitioners from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and initiative in solving problems.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
