Are you passionate about helping adult learners thrive in higher education? Do you believe college should work for students at every stage of life? Utah Valley University invites applications for a student-focused leader to become our next Program Director of Adult
Learner Support Services. Reporting to the Senior Director of the Adult Learner Initiative, the Program Director of Adult Learner Support Services leads collaborative, student-facing, and barrier-reducing efforts to support the success, retention, and completion of adult learners.

What You'll Do:
  • Lead and grow programs that help adult learners succeed, stay on track, and complete their degrees.
  • Use data and research to identify needs, close gaps, and guide decision-making.
  • Supervise and mentor peer advisors and learner guides. (Yes, you'll also be working directly with students!)
  • Build partnerships with faculty, staff, and departments to better serve adult learners.
  • Create workshops, trainings, and events that inform, inspire, and connect.
  • Keep the adult learner resource hub updated and relevant.

    What We're Looking For:
  • A bachelor's degree and 3-5 years of relevant experience (master's and 2+ years of experience preferred).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • A deep understanding of the adult learner experience and how to support it.
  • Experience with program development, and student success strategies.

    Summary of Responsibilities


    • Leads the development and continuous improvement of strategic initiatives that enhance adult learner engagement and outcomes, ensuring alignment with institutional goals. Collaborates with university departments, faculty, and community partners to develop and coordinate services that address the unique needs of adult learners. Recommends, and implements policies, procedures, and programs that remove systemic barriers to adult learner persistence and completion.
    • Identifies and advocates for adult learner needs and delineates key outcomes to improve the adult learner experience. Conducts needs assessments and uses internal and external data to help inform and prioritize measures in support of the adult learner population. Contributes to the assessment of campus support programs, structures, and the student academic experience with the needs of adult learners in mind.
    • Hires and provides oversight, guidance, and training to learner guides and peer advisors, ensuring alignment with program goals and student success strategies. Maintains a personal student caseload and offers direct support to adult learners navigating the university environment.
    • Collaboratively designs and delivers training and professional development opportunities for faculty and staff to build awareness and responsiveness to adult learner needs. Serves as a consultant and advocate across departments. Participates in campus and ad hoc committees as assigned.
    • Directs and implements adult learner-focused events, initiatives, and intervention efforts. Maintains the adult learner websites and resources.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.


    Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

    Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree plus three to five years of related experience.

    Preferred Qualifications
    Master's degree and two years of related experience preferred.

    • Knowledge of principles, theories, and research relevant to adult learners and higher education success strategies.
    • Knowledge of current trends and strategies used in support of the success of adult learners.
    • Knowledge of principles, methods, and techniques of effective organizational staffing, supervision, and personnel practices, including staff development and training.
    • Knowledge of institutional policy, student development theory, and inclusive support structures.
    • Knowledge of and commitment to UVU's mission and strategic directions.
