Job Summary

A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the Smalyukh Research Group, Department of Physics, MSE and RASEI, University of Colorado Boulder. This is an opening with a research focus on self-assembly of mesostructured composite materials with emergent new properties and physical behavior. The position is initially for one year starting from August 1, 2025 but can be potentially extended for about three additional years. In addition, our Research laboratory can host Feodor Lynen Research Fellows in this research area and encourages applications by scientists interested in a collaborative research while staying in our laboratory. Who We Are

Department of Physics - The Department includes 54 tenured and tenure-track faculty performing cutting-edge research. Its graduate physics program draws ~1200 applications per year and is ranked by the National Research Council to be among the top 15 overall. The Department appears as high as 12th worldwide in international rankings of university Physics Departments. The department is strongly affiliated with centers and institutes such as JILA, a research institute administered jointly by NIST and the University of Colorado, and the Center for Theory of Quantum Matter, as well as with nearby National Laboratories (NIST and NREL), offering world-class facilities and broad opportunities for research collaboration.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

The planned research projects will be spanning soft condensed matter, including studies of colloids, liquid crystals, topological defects and solitons, bacterial biofilms, active matter and out-of-equilibrium behavior of soft matter systems. Multiple collaborations with other postdocs and PhD students in the group are expected.

The salary range for this position is $51,000-65,000 annually.

A PhD in Physics with a focus on soft condensed matter, or a closely related field.
