Job Description:
The Law Enforcement Academy and Specialized Training program in the School of Human and Protective Services at Madison College is seeking an Instructional Support Technician to support laboratory operations. Responsibilities include maintaining lab spaces and equipment, assisting students with assignments, and ensuring the safe and proper use of materials. This role is key to supporting instructional needs through collaboration with faculty and maintaining up-to-date lab technology.
The Instructional Support Technician plays a vital role in fostering a safe, well-equipped, and effective learning environment that promotes hands-on experiences and student success.
This position is based at the Madison College Public Safety Facility in Columbus, WI. It is a part-time role, scheduled for up to 19 hours per week on a year-round basis (52 weeks). Work hours will vary Monday through Friday, depending on operational needs.

Accountabilities:
- Provides direct support to students in laboratory settings by assisting with assignments, demonstrating techniques and reinforcing instructional concepts to enhance hands-on learning.
- Maintains and prepares lab spaces by setting up, organizing and cleaning equipment and materials to ensure a safe and functional learning environment.
- Communicates technical issues and reports maintenance needed. Supports faculty and instructional needs by maintaining open communication, providing supplemental instruction and reports/schedules maintenance as needed.
- Ensures compliance with institutional policies and safety regulations by maintaining records, implementing best practices and training students and staff on lab procedures.
- Contributes to an inclusive, equitable and supportive environment where everyone at the institution feels valued, respected and empowered to reach their full potential.
- Adheres to college policies, directives and work rules while maintaining a commitment to the college's mission, vision and values.
- Performs other related duties within the scope of the position as required for the efficient operation of the division and to support institutional objectives.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of laboratory operations, safety protocols and equipment maintenance.
- Skill in assisting students with laboratory exercises, demonstrating techniques and reinforcing instructional concepts.
- Ability to collaborate with faculty, staff and stakeholders to support instructional needs and align lab resources with institutional goals.
- Ability to develop, implement and enforce safety procedures, operational protocols and compliance measures.
- Skill in engaging positively with all populations and communities, contributing to a safe and inclusive learning and work environment.
- Skill in effectively and respectfully communicating with others.
Minimum Requirements:
- Associate Degree or equivalent working experience. *Experience used as an equivalent of an educational requirement is in addition to any experience required by the position.
- 1-3 years of relevant work experience related to the position.
- Valid driver's license.
