Position Announcement

The Department of Accounting at Utah Valley University, located in Orem, Utah, is seeking candidates for faculty positions as a Professional-in-Residence in Accounting. A Professional-in-Residence typically teaches undergraduate and graduate courses. The faculty member attends and participates in department meetings and may serve on department committees related to their area of expertise and teaching. Utah Valley University places a strong emphasis on teaching. Faculty members are expected to develop a learning environment and activities that help students achieve their learning objectives.

As assigned by the Department Chair, teaches courses related to accounting. Teaching assignment will be based on professional expertise and departmental teaching needs at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Other assigned tasks may include acting as lead faculty instructor for one or more courses. Maintains AACSB professional category qualifications. Actively maintains curriculum alignment with current industry standards, collaborates with faculty to ensure course design reflects real-world demands, and serves as a vital link between academic theory and professional practice. In addition to teaching, mentors students on career development and helps them build industry connections and job search strategies.

Summary of Responsibilities


  • As assigned by the Department Chair, teaches courses related to accounting. Teaching assignment will be based on professional expertise and departmental teaching needs at the undergraduate and graduate level. Maintains AACSB professional category qualifications. Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study that includes measureable objectives for each course taught. Maintains a student-oriented approach to education. Takes an active role in maintaining and updating curriculum to reflect current industry standards, tools, and best practices.
  • Assists the Department in tasks/projects commensurate with the experience and expertise of the applicant (e.g. alumni relations, placement efforts, other.). Serves as a bridge between academic theory and professional practice. Collaborates with faculty on course design that prepares students for contemporary workplace demands
  • Attends organization meetings and helps create high quality student engagement that will benefit the students as well as the professional reputation of the Accounting Department, Woodbury School of Business and Utah Valley University.
  • Advises and mentors students on career paths, skill development, and professional preparation. Helps students build industry connections and develop job search strategies


Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with an appropriate degree in a field of study directly related to the summary of duties plus professional experience related to the program or discipline. A minimum of 5 years of recent professional accounting experience along with 5+ years of recent professional experience involving significant management and supervisory accounting experience.See preferred qualifications for discipline or program specific minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications
Graduation from an AACSB accredited institution with a Master's degree in an accounting-related field is required. Connection with Utah accounting firms and businesses is preferred. Professional certifications such as CPA, CMA, CIA, and CFE.
